Simon Phillips Jazz Drums

The functionality of the Simon Phillips Jazz Drums content set is similar to previous AcousticAgent sets. However, there are some differences and additions on the Edit page and in theAgent mixer.

The content set contains two variations of the same kit, one played with sticks and one withbrushes. These two kits provide slightly different sets of articulations. For example, the stickkit comes with additional tom rimshot articulations and a set of snare rolls, whereas the brushkit delivers five additional brush patterns. The hihat of the stick kit comes with tip and shaftarticulation, the brush kit only with tip articulation.

The following sections describe the parameters that are unique to the Simon Phillips Jazz Drumscontent set. For a complete list of the available parameters, refer to the documentation of theAcoustic Agent SE in the manual for Groove Agent or Groove Agent SE.

Edit Page ParametersThe toms, kick drums, and snare drums feature a Resonance control. This microphone channeldelivers the sound of the resonating kit that is produced when a kick, snare, or one of the toms istriggered.

Snare Drums

The Audio Warp parameter of the brush kit allows you to sync the speed of the brush patternto the tempo of the host application. If Audio Warp is deactivated, the speed of the pattern isindependent from the tempo of the host.

Ride Cymbals

All three ride cymbals can also be played as crash cymbals and, therefore, the Choke and ChokeController parameters are available for them, too.

The Scribes parameter of the brush kit allows you to adjust the level of the scribes articulation.

Hihat

Foot Splash Level allows you to adjust the level of the foot splash articulation.

Mixer Page Parameters

As for other Acoustic Agent kits, the Agent mixer provides dedicated channels for all instrumentgroups, as well as for the individual instruments.

The RES/MIX tab contains a dedicated master channel for the resonance signals. The controls forthis channel are the same as for the room and overhead channels on the ROOM/OH tab.

Jazz drum kits are often recorded using the overhead microphones to capture the cymbalswithout using the close microphones. Therefore, you can deactivate the individual closemicrophone channels when they are not required. This also reduces the required memory andthe processor load.
