I see the terrible condition of the road leading to Irugl but that should not deter us from continuing to care of one another, encourage and motivate each other because we need each other to gain strength and move forward. The road may reflect the ignorance of those responsible or you may think the world have forgotten you but not SCF for we will extend the heart of good people around the world to your doorsteps.” SCF President - Jimmy Drekore in Irugl

THANKYOU WESTERN AUSTRALIA

SCF Team Western Australia send a container of donated goods for children in Simbu early January. Complications with customs and other paper work had the container waiting at the Lae wharf for 4 solid weeks before departing for Simbu on the 22nd Feb. It arrived in Kundiawa on the 23rd and the goods were unloaded to a reserved container. The donated goods came in three categories: Simbu Ad-ventist Students Association (SASA), Irugl and SCF. Gore Dulume’s family picked up the SASA’s goods on behalf of SASA. The items for Irugl were to be the next dispatch hence the district (Gembogl) vehicle was arranged. The Gembogl road was a real challenge, the four wheel drives were crying at the Mandime stretch echoing the pain and daily struggles of the Gembogl people. Tears fell silently as they continually struggle to reach Kundiawa. Forget the children in Irugl, they were way up there at the foot of Mt Wilhelm and no one dared to visit them but SCF did for their heart beat was our reason, our identity, our pride and our love. We arrived and the mothers tears, the very reason of us being Simbus, fell uncontrollably as the vehicle closed in. There we piled all the boxes of the donated goods and we told them, those were donations from Western Australia facilitated by SCF Team WA. Compliments and acknowledgements poured in from the care givers, village elders and the District Officer in charge (DOIC), Mr Joe Ulka. He thanked SCF on behalf of the people of Gembogl and ap-plauded the efforts of those who have concern for their people back home. The local people in return piled a huge heap of vegetable. A reflection of the richness in the Gembogl area sadly forgotten by the world only to become victim of time. God bless the people of Gembogl.

BELOW ARE SOME FEEDBACK I REFER to your report “Children of Chimbu receive gifts” (March 9). The Simbu Children Founda-tion (SCF) shows it has the heart for young people who are struggling and cannot afford basic needs in their lives. It is doing a great job by bringing joy to the little ones who need some care and respect. This support and assistance will be remembered for a long time. On behalf of Irugl Mother of Life care centre, we would like to say thank you to Jimmy and all those who made things possible for these gifts to reach our centre. The children and our support team will remember you and your team in our prayers. Fr Boni Umba - Jiwaka Wow! am truly touched with this amazing donations by team WA. I pray abundance in blessings on the sources and the people involved in this arrangement. God bless and will take SCF miles in the pro-vision of its humanitarian support to the children of Simbu. Its a blessing to all Simbu and am truly astounded by our passion. Gods blessing, Elizabeth Gande - Team QLD Monea Jim, you are one hell of a man to be reckoned. Hi Jimmy, Thankyou for sending me the news article. Since becoming member of the SCF I have read nearly all your articles & newsletters. I have been most im-pressed and moved to the point where I am compelled to write you this short piece. You are labouring in a field of great need, reaching out to the future generation of our people, but particularly the unfortunate children. Among the working class Simbu's you stand tall, a beaming icon of exemplary leadership and sacrifice. I hope that more and more of our young working people can join you in this labour of love instead of wasting youthful energies & time in unproductive enterprises. Keep up the good work you are doing. When I consider what you are doing I am

reminded of my own up bringing and commitment to rural development in many parts of rural devel-opment over the last 27 years. My comfort has always been Eccelestias 12, and I am most honoured to pass this most inspiring and mentoring chapter of that great but difficult Book to you. Matthew Kanua - Team Hides

PRAMS DONATED TO CHILDREN’S WARD - KGH

There were 18 prams included in the donation from SCF Team WA. The prams were assembled and donated to Kundiawa General Hospital children’s ward. They were received by the new CEO, Dr John Tonar and witnessed by DFA, Mathew Kaluvier and Sister in charge of the children’s ward, Sister Agnes. Dr Tonar passed his acknowledgement to SCF and the people of Western Australia for the wonderful donation. He encouraged all members & volunteers to continue the good work of SCF.

JUNIA APPEAL

In life, disaster strikes unexpectedly and the consequences are devastating for those affected. But for a young boy in Chuave district of Simbu province, disaster struck not once but three times. Junia Mote Upa Baiya is a quiet little boy from Mainini village in Chuave, lost his father through cancer, his mother left home and his house went up in flames. Post Courier Feb. 2nd 2011 Junia is selected to do grade 7 this year. He needs support for his education and he has no one to turn to. Anyone who wishes to support Junia can contact Jimmy Drekore on 71550105 or email: [email protected] or contact Tony Aromo on 73390694.

TEAM LIHIR CONTRIBUTES K1280 TOWARDS JUNIA APPEAL Team Lihir after learning that Junia & his little sister’s school fees this year were covered from the K150 donation from Jimmy & Bernard Atomo, they decided to contribute towards getting the kids back into a house. Team Lihir Coordinator Mr William Mond last year at the Ball made a pledge of K1000 on behalf of Team Lihir and that contribution from the team went up to K1280 which the team decided to donate to the Junia Appeal. Team Lihir has also started collecting second hand safety boots, shirts and pants for the technical students in Simbu and so far, 8 boots and a box each for shirts and pants (work wear) were collected. Well done Team Lihir, when the need arises your heart rises like the tsunami of the south seas.

BE STRONG JUNIA Bush Poet

Be strong Junia

Don’t let them cross the road Don’t let them knock on doors

Always hold their hands They can’t see but you can

Should they be hungry

You must not eat Should they be thirsty You must not drink Should they need rest

Your eyes must be the last

The sun will stare Do not look up The rain will fall Do not run away

Concentrate on the road

Do not look at what they wear Do not look at what they bring Do not look at what they eat

Do not look at who picks them up You all enter the same gate

Focus on the next gate Concentrate on the road

Be cautious with your steps Walk firmly with confidence

The world will be yours

Be strong son

WILLIAM MOND AND HIS TROOPS - TEAM LIHIR

Dear Jim, thanks for the nice update and even more for the fantas-tic work you are doing selflessly. While many of us talk the talk, you and others walk the talk, and every time I read such updates of SCF doing new and different things like none else in Simbu or PNG for that matter, it lifts my spirits and hopes up and higher. Hope is one of the best ingredients in life we can instil in the young and the unfortunate who have lost their parents and guardi-ans to lift their spirits, and give them the feeling of care, love and belonging to a bigger family of SCF. All this work, regardless of their size; big or small, public or in private, will some day return the result in a magnitude we may not imagine now. SCF is always going from strength to strength, creative, dynamic and a pioneer in its own right. I hope our politicians who are constantly worried about where the majority of their base votes are and try to do something with a motive, will see the examples of SCF and de-liver goods and services where the need is. We see and hear of all the huge disasters around the world including the recent ones in Christchurch, New Zealand and Tokyo, Japan. These are disasters of enormous scales causing extensive damages. However, the majority of the victims of such disasters will eventually forget where the donation came from during their darkest hours once they get on their feet on the ground and move on. This won't be the case for our little angles up in Irugle and elsewhere who are recipients of SCF donations. Whatever little they get (item and from whom) in donation will register permanently in their minds and will always be a talking point throughout their lives. These are the positive seeds of hope planted by SCF and they are most like to be torch bearers in the footsteps of SCF in the future. I just wish that our politicians, both in Simbu and PNG wear a different set of glasses and see the way SCF sees things for a day. Jim, team Western Australia and the rest of the crew on this well respected and worthy humanitarian drive, I can't thank you all enough for doing a brilliant job in putting smiles and raising hopes on the future custodians of Simbu and PNG. May the good Lord bless and reward you in leaps and bounds. Tine Ningal - Team Ireland
