One of the highlights of the Independence Celebration is the Baking Contest. Creativity and Culinary Talents abound in Silverlake and Southwyck. Although the judges enjoy sampling and rating the entries, it is a difficult job to select the best of the best. Criteria for judging is based upon Taste, Presentation, Creativity and Appeal. Most of the entries were prepared by children which makes the event even more special because they are so very proud of their creation. Each prize winner receives a check for $100. Winners are listed in each of the categories with a Grand Prize winner as well.

First Prize for the Brownie entry went to Lisa and Ed Anderson for their star brownies with butter cream frosting and red, white and blue flags.

First Prize for the Cake entry went to Alex Smith for the flag draped fondant frosting with the message God Bless the USA.

First Prize for the Cookie entry went to Claire and Cody Anderson for their gigantic cookie with stars and a written message of Happy Birthday USA.

First Prize for cupcakes entry went to Emily Kott for her Mini Melons with green frosting and watermelon like seeds in the pink cupcake.

Grand Prize was a Brownie with a beautiful burst of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries on a glazed cream cheese with jam frosting known as Brownie and Berries Dessert Pizza.

Recipes are available for most of the entries.

Thanks to all of you who attended the recent Fourth of July celebration in the Silverlake clubhouse and pool. It was a busy and fun event, and with hundreds of attendees it is a great way to meet your neighbors. We hope to see you at Breakfast with Santa in December!

Safety is a key concern in our neighborhood, and thanks to your support, our hardworking Brazoria County Sheriffs are able to use your HOA clubhouse as an office and rest station. It has been a great success, as the Sheriffs have increased their patrols in our area.

However, you are the key to keeping our neighborhoods safe. Please call the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department dispatch line if you see suspicious behavior in your area.

If you see something, say something – whether that is a suspicious car trolling

around the neighborhood, unfamiliar people walking around, or any other

potentially dangerous situation you see unfolding in our area.Through your support of your HOA, Silverlake has a very strong

and cooperative relationship with our Sheriffs, and we are working together so our neighborhoods remain safe and secure.

Your Silverlake Homeowners Association hopes you are having a fun and safe summer 2015

Please call the BCSD main dispatch line at (281) 331-9000 to report suspicious behavior.

As a reminder, your Silverlake HOA is ready to serve you to keep our neighborhood safe, clean and well-maintained. With numerous amenities such as our pool, clubhouse, expanded playgrounds, tennis courts, and various playing fields, Silverlake is a great place to call home.

If you have questions or concerns about Silverlake, please contact Khara Mathews at PCMI:
