SLC NEWS
Goodbye and Thank You
Dear Silverdale Lutheran Church,
As many of you know, my pastoral internship with SLC will end on July 31. I am deeply grateful and eternally indebted to you all for this meaningful, eye-opening, generous experience. I never imagined that 25 years ago, when I walked through the doors of SLC for the first time, I would someday serve a pastoral internship here.
I can’t adequately put into words how important and formative you have been for me, but I will forever carry these memories with me: putting into my hands that first communion wafer (yes, I was 25 when I first took communion!); inviting me into those first conversations about grace as a free gift (what?!); allowing me to serve as congregational president in 2010; welcoming my family and then saying goodbye to us … only to welcome us back a few years later when the Navy kindly returned us to Kitsap County; looking into hundreds of friendly faces as I preached my first sermon at SLC.
Our stories will certainly and forever be intertwined. I only hope I can personally be as generous as you collectively have been to me. (And yes, I am sobbing as I write this.)
As I say goodbye to my position as pastoral intern I now also say goodbye as SLC’s small groups connector. I do this with a heavy heart, for all the reasons I wrote about earlier in this note, along with many others.
When I first returned to SLC in August 2018 to become the new small groups connector the plan was for me to continue to serve in this job until May 2021, when I will graduate from Wartburg Seminary. However, I am in consideration for another position within the Southwest Washington Synod. After several weeks of discernment, prayer and family conversations, I have decided to pursue this new opportunity. I hope to be able to share the specific news about this position soon. My last official day as SLC small groups connector will be July 31.
There will never be enough words to express how important and amazing this congregation is to me. Only God could imagine such a journey together. I am more than thankful to God and to all of you.
Peace, Marietta Nelson-Bittle

Two opportunities to make Masks:
Do you like to sew? There are two great opportunities to make masks to help people during this quarantine. (1) Make masks for SLC and our eventual return to worship in the building. We plan
to have disposable masks handy, but many members might need reusable cloth masks. If you are interested contact Kathleen at:

Covid-19. Reach neighbors in need without leaving home. The masks you sew in your living room will provide love and protection to a neighbor in need halfway around the world. For more information visit: https://lwr.org/masks
