Local Spotlight: Sandi Stamates and Suzi Reynolds

Sandi Stamates and Suzi Reynolds have been friends for 36 years. Sandi and Suzi have both been residents of Danville for over 35 years. They believe it was fate they met, as their lives would continue to be entwined to this day. Both women worked for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District throughout their careers, lived in the same neighborhood, had children close in age, enjoy cooking and traveling and belonged to the Del Amigo Swim Club.

Raising their children in Danville included lots of great times filled with swim meets, baseball games and cruising around Danville. “We would ride our bikes downtown to the baseball fields at Charlotte Wood Middle School (currently the Danville Library location) and just see what was going on,” said Suzi. The baseball fields were a social place to hang out around town.

Twenty-five years ago the two women and another friend (who has

since passed) started walking on Saturday mornings together. They meet at Suzi’s house, have a cup of coffee, and then walk 3-4 miles ending their walk at the Farmer’s Market. They have only missed a few of their walks due to vacations, injuries or family commitments. It is a tradition the ladies continue today.

Both women have retired from their jobs at the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. Sandi started her career at Montair Elementary as a parent-helper, and ended full-circle back at Montair fifteen years later as the school secretary, where she worked for twelve years. Suzi worked at the District office for her entire career in Human Resources.

Sandi and Suzi share the same passion for cooking. Both women are Italian and like to cook traditional family meals with healthy new variations. Both women have traveled to Italy and would love an extended trip where they could cook and enjoy the food together. Recently, Sandi and Suzi taught a cooking demonstration class for seniors. Sandi mentioned

that they both wanted the cooking demonstration to be delicious, easy and healthy for the participants.

Their advice to other seniors would be to “take advantage of what Danville has to offer by walking downtown and visiting the Farmer’s Market; it’s wonderful.” As for their friendship of 36 years, they both shared “We encourage each other to try new things. Life is all about new experiences.”
