. There is a deadline to obtain your
nomination petitions from the Club Secre-
tary. The request to get a petition must
be to Katie by June 1st. After you get
that petition signed properly you need to
get that back to Katie by July 1st. So if
you are going to the Nationals you could
take care of all of this at once and not
worry about missing the deadline.
We also have a nomination due on
July 1st for Personality of the year. I have
not seen where we have taken advantage
of nominating people very often unless it
has slipped my mind who these people
are.
We also have spots empty on our
committees so if you want to become
more involved contact Connie to see
where you can help out.

From Connie Burant, President
Greetings from Wisconsin
It’s been a cold long winter here in the upper
Midwest. February looks like it will go on record as
the sixth coldest on record following last years re-
corded as the third coldest. Any of my friends living
in the warm south looking for a snowbird? Will
clean barn for sunshine!!! Spring won’t be here soon enough for me.
Even our local groundhog Jimmy is upset, he bit the mayors ear on
Groundhogs Day! Even the arrival of the seed catalogs have failed to
improve my spirits.
Looking forward to the trip to Sedalia, it will be great to see old
friends again at Spring Nationals. Personally my spring show season will
be a slow one as my does have not cooperated….several rounds of breed-
ing and poor conception rates all the way around, if they did conceive
they dumped them on the wire, or failed to care for them. I hope your
winter breeding proved to be more productive.
It’s not too late to make your reservations for Sedalia, Host hotel
is the Truman Hotel, (Econo Lodge), 660-826-8400, please mention
Tonna Thomas for group rate. It is a pre-entry show, $7 rabbit, $2 fur.
Post marked by April 10, 2015, email entry deadline April 17, 2015.
Cooping included. Day of entry accepted, $9 rabbit. Mail or email en-
tries to Katie Peltier, SMRC P.O. Box 1722, Superior, Wisconsin
54880 or email [email protected] We will be having a raffle
so bring a donation for the table or extra cash for tickets!
ARBA Nationals will be held in Portland, Oregon this fall, it’s
not too early to start planning. Mark and I have already booked our
flights and made hotel reservations. If you’re flying you might want to
reserve your vehicle right away too. With having a board member on the
planning committee, Stephanie may have a few insider tips she can share
to make everyone’s trip a little easier.
I wish everyone well at the show tables, and would like to take
this opportunity to remind everyone that this is a “HOBBY” and to be
kind to everybody in the showroom. A simple excuse me, please and
thank-you go a long way in making a show run smoother.
Until next time…
Connie
Katie Peltier, Secretary/Treasurer
Well I hope all the nest boxes are plump full. We haven’t had very prolific bucks
this winter.
Wish we had more babies.
SM Nationals are just around the corner. If you wish to do pre-entry, it is due
to me by 4/10/15. Banquet tickets are available and must be ordered thru
Katie by 4/10/15.
Elections are coming up.
The positions up for election are the following:
VP, Dan Saunier
Secretary/Treasurer, Katie Peltier
Director, Tex Thomas
Director, Gary Grimm
Director, Ron Riddle
Director, Wendall Tisher
If you wish to run for election, please contact me at [email protected] for an election peti-
tion. It is due back to me no later than July 1, 2015 and must be signed by 5 current adult members
of the SMRC.
If you have any questions or comments, please email me and I will get back to you as soon as possi-
ble.

Greetings from snowy NW Ohio
What a winter, but had some nice litters since convention – hope every-
one has survived the cold – hope to see everyone in MO. Let’s have a
good time. Good luck to all you that are coming and have a safe trip.
Wendell Tisher, Director
It has been a nice winter in South Dakota to this point (March 1st) . Had a couple of cold spells
when it got below ) but not for long and we haven't had much snow. I'm starting to get to the
point where I want to play in the dirt and get some things growing. Have started a few plants in-
side.
The barn is full of babies with more coming nearly every day. The shows we have had in Janu-
ary and February have been very well attended but there have not been many Silver Martens at
them --only a couple of breeders and just a hand full of rabbits. For such a beautiful rabbit I just
don't know why they are not more popular.
The spring nationals are just around the corner. I hope everyone is ready for them and is
ready for the birth of the bunnies that will be in Portland this fall.

What a crazy start to the year! Here in
New Jersey, we started off our show season with
a few local 4-H shows, a new ARBA show in
Southern Jersey, and then PaSRBA. The num-
bers for Martens were lower compared to years
past, but there were a few new faces at the ta-
bles. Welcome to those who are new! We are
glad to have you join us.
Mom and I are heavily involved in our local and state 4-H
rabbit program, so we have been dedicating the last few weeks
to preparing for an educational symposium that was held to-
day. Some of the topics included Writing for Judges, Preparing
for a Show, Health Check 101, and Show Administration. It was
a great opportunity for us to share all the knowledge and experi-
ence we have gained through our years in the project with
younger hobbyist who will be the future of our associations. If
anyone gets the opportunity to do something for 4-H, take it! It
is a great organization that helps bring people into our hobby,
and helps provide us with our leaders of tomorrow. With that, I
am signing off to work on our 4-H State Show!
Hope to see many of you at Ohio Mini Convention!
It was a long trip back home from the ARBA Nationals that was held in the State of Texas. Congratulations to the Saunier’s for winning Best and Best Opp of Breed. Also, to all of those who won Bov and Bosv and also to all of the class winners. Any persons wishing to run for a Silver Marten office should start getting their petitions sign and get them turn in to the Sec. before the deadline, which is July 1st. Offices to be filled this year are the Vice President, Sec/treas. and 3 directors. Spring Silver Marten Nationals will be held in MO. this year. More information can be found in this newsletter. I am getting tired of winter, can’t wait for spring to get here. Then I can get tired of the mud. Till next time

As I am putting this newsletter together, I am getting ready to take a trip to Florida for a
visit with my parents. I doubt that I get it in the mail while I am still in Ohio. I am ready for
warmer weather so I took it into my own hands and planned a trip south.
I am sure if you have been on the website that you have seen that it has not been updated.
Since I said I would do the website I have undertaken a remodel of the site. It has taken longer
than I thought and plan to have it up this month. My time in Florida should allow me some uninter-
rupted time to work on it.
I hope you have enjoyed the two newsletters that I have put together. If there is something
that you would like to see in the next issue, please contact me.
I really want to thank those board members that take the time to send me something to put
into the issues of the newsletter. It does not just have to be the directors sending me something, if
you have something you want the membership to know, send it to me. If you have questions or
have topics that you want addressed and think that the membership can help, maybe we can add a
Q & A section if space allows. This issue I had room but not every issue will have such room.

The Silver Marten breed
(named) was started in
1924.
In 1927, the first working
standard was adopted for
the black and chocolate
varieties and the first Sil-
ver Marten Club was
chartered. In 1929 the
blues were accepted, and
in 1933 the sable variety
was approved. These are
the same 4 varieties still
shown today.
