  • Hello

Thank you for downloading this Rich Games for Learning resource. I designed this game as a fun way for students to explore adjectives, nouns, adverbs and verbs.

I have created this game as a free resource and it would be great if you could share it around with friends and colleagues who may like to play this game with their children.

Thanks for sharing, I hope you and your children have fun with Silly Sentence. For more games please have a look at Rich Games for Learning.

    Kind Regards

    Learning Outcomes:

    Adjectives

    Nouns

    Adverbs

    Verbs

    Required Material:

Silly Sentence templates to write sentence on

    Pencils

    Aim of the game:

To create a silly sentence by adding the required type

of word (adjective, noun, verb or adverb) without

knowing what the rest of the sentence reads.

    Instructions:

    1. Students are put into groups of four in the classroom.

    2. Each group is given the template Silly Sentence piece

of paper. Normal paper can also be used as long as

students know which word they need to add to the

paper. The sentence needs to start with the word The.

    3. The paper is passed around the group one at a time.

    4. Thefirstplayerwritesanadjectivethenfoldsthepa-

per so the adjective is hidden from the next player.

    5. The next player writes a noun below the adjective and

then folds the paper so that the adjective is hidden.

    6. The next player writes Was and then a Verb, they

then fold the paper so the verb is hidden.

    7. The last player writes an adverb below where the verb

    would be.

    8. Once all groups have done this they take turns sharing

their sentence with the whole class.

    9. The teacher can give rewards for; the funniest sen-

tence, the most interesting sentence or the sentence

    that makes the most sense.

    Notes:

There are many extension activities that can be done

with the created sentences. Students could write a

story using this sentence to start the story, students

could act out the scene using the sentence or they

could draw a picture to show the sentence.
