IN & AROUND MENOMONIEMenomonie was ranked #15 of the Best Small Towns in America

THINGS TO DOYou might run out of time, but you won’t run out of things to do in Menomonie!

The Menomonie Wisconsin Silgan facility was acquired by Silgan Containers in 1993 from Northern Can System. This plant was originally built as Howington in 1986.

Silgan Menomonie produces three different types of products within the containers business. We produce aluminum and steel 2-piece draw redraw cans, 3-piece welded can and steel and aluminum converted ends.

There are approximately 100 employees working at the Silgan Menomonie facility, with 90 or more full time.

Named for the historic Native American tribe, the Menominee, inhabitants who pre-dated the state. In 1788, French-Canadian fur trader and schoolmaster Jean Baptiste Perrault established a trading post and fort on the Red Cedar River very near Menomonie and in 1882 it was incorporated as a city.

The City of Menomonie has a population of over 16,000. It is just 20 miles down the road from Eau Claire (population 65,000) and Wisconsin’s 9th largest city. Menomonie is also an hour away from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro area which includes an International Airport.

Both Menomonie and Eau Claire have public Universities and Technical Colleges to support greater education. Menomonie ranked #15 best small towns in America in 2012 and Eau Claire ranked as one of the best 100 communities for young people.
