The most beautiful things in this world are the results of ultimate chaos. A volcano gives birth to exotic fertile islands, a flood brings richness to the soil, a seed is annihilated only to spring back to life, and everything that is born out of the womb of a mother has gone though a labor to become an ultimate creation in its own way.  Silent River Film Festival in its third year shares the similar destiny, only to emerge as a promising platform for the independent filmmakers, that we are proud to share today with everyone who is a part of it.  We once again bring “East and West” together to share their best works of film and “Cinema and Causes” on one platform to bring awareness about the issues that are important to us. We are also proud to be a festival not only for the filmmakers, but for the screenwriters, actors and music-makers alike.  This year we received a film inspired by the vision of a Prince (Harmony: A New Way of Looking at Our World) and a film inspired by the vision of a Monk (Pad Yatra: A Green Odyssey). Watching these films I wondered, how vast the Silent River Film Festival has become along its journey, going beyond the boundaries of class, nations and ideologies, only to come together to share the stories that have never been told like this before. Films made by the up-coming independent filmmakers to the films made by the masters of cine art, we celebrate every film that is submitted to us with the same spirit.  This year the Silent River Film Festival showcases over 80 films from 17 countries, and celebrates 100 years of Indian Cinema by paying a special tribute to it. Under our “Cinema for Causes” program, we support “Pad Yatra: A Green Odyssey” and its environmental cause. We also support the “Dusty's Trail: Summit of Borneo” to raise global awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy to fund research and to find a cure for Duchenne. Out of 83 films being shown at the Silent River Film Festival this year, 14 films are related to causes. This is very assuring.  Last but not the least, I'm touched by the support of our filmmakers, celebrities, juries, panelists, media, sponsors, volunteers, and most importantly the City of Irvine for believing in the vision of the Silent River Film Festival and providing its support in the greater interest of Irvine community, that represents diversity, and believes in coming together to celebrate multi-cultural art and cinema. My special thanks to each and everyone mentioned here. Without your support, our festival wasn't possible!  The 2013 Silent River Film Festival is all about Joy, Hope, Precision and Fearlessness. Join us, and be the part of our celebrated mission! Kalpna Singh-Chitnis Founder & Director Silent River Film Festival

How  did  the  Silent  River  Film  Festival  find  its  name?

The  Silent  River  Film  Festival  got  its  name  from  the  poem  “Silent  River”,  written  by  the  festival’s  founder  and  director,  Kalpna  Singh-‐Chitnis.

Silent  River:    Truth  is  not  always  what  is  said,    Truth  is  not  always  what  is  heard,    Sometimes,  the  truth  stays  Somewhere  in  the  middle    And  flows  with  the  course  of  life    Like  a  Silent  River,  Committed  to  the  world  on  both  its  sides,    Searching  for  its  way  to  the  ocean.
