A silent environment offers a respite from our increasingly noisy and intense everyday
surroundings. Silence travel provides the opportunity to linger, be silent and calm down – to
listen to and concentrate on the rich nuances of silence, and to hear one’s own mind.
Anyone can be quiet. In silence, we can learn to be present and listen to ourselves, our
feelings and our needs. Silence is a source of health, vitality and well-being. Living in
constant noise has been proven harmful to the health. Outer silence helps us to discover our
inner peace. Silence is a state that can permanently change our attitude to life.

We probably all experience silence differently. Silence can be an exotic experi-ence compared to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This transition does not happen instantly, and can even feel extreme. Silence travel offers steps in and out of different kinds of silences.
9
10
The Finnish people highly value nature as a place of silence. Silence is often perceived as part of the great, wide outdoors in their natural state. Nature’s sounds are often thought of as pleasant sounds of silence. By going out-doors, we can enjoy silence, listening to the small sounds of nature. When was the last time you heard the sigh of the wind, the lapping of the waves, your own breathing or the rustle of fir needles under your feet?

Exercises performed during the excursion may strengthen your bond with nature.
You can also repeat the exercises later, in the forests close to your home, in public
parks or in the wilderness.

Scenic Cruise on the Koitajoki River
Go with the flow and enjoy!
Running in both Finland and Russia, the Koitajoki river provides an excellent chance
to become familiar with Karelia’s varied natural landscape. The river includes both
churning rapids and large lakes. Our scenic cruise will take you along these waters
on a motorised pontoon raft. This accessible raft has an even bottom and carries 12
persons in addition to the captain.
The tour begins at the Möhkön Manta cafeteria in the Möhkö village, where we put
on weatherproof clothing before embarking on the cruise. Based on the group’s
preferences, we trace the slow Koitajoki river and marvel at the riverside scenery as
we move towards Lake Nuorajärvi. You can also try your luck at fishing, by trolling on
the river. Fishers need a valid fishing licence from the Finnish state. We will also pack
food and – depending on the weather – cold or hot drinks. Our return schedule to
Möhkö can be tailored to your wishes.
Price: EUR 75/hour (for groups of 1-12 people), incl. the programme, the raft, its
captain and the necessary safety equipment, trolling gear, snacks for the cruise,
liability insurance.
Time: 1 June - 30 September 2015; weather permitting!
Additional services: We recommend a visit to the Möhkö Iron Works museum.
