THE OLYMPICSis the BIGGEST and most prestigioussports event in the world. Every year,HUNDREDS of international federationssubmit their applications to be includedin the Games.
The question is: how does theInternational Olympic Committee (IOC)select a competing sport?
SELECTION PROCESSThe Summer Olympics is held every 4 years and hosted by differentcountries. The decision to include a sport in the Olympics is made atleast 7 years before the actual event.
Maximum number of games in Summer Olympics is capped to 28sports total. But this decision varies depending on the IOC and HostCountry.
FIRST, IOC will choose 25 out of 28 core sports from the Association ofSummer Olympic International Federation (ASOIF). The 3 additionalslots will be reserved for members of Association of IOC RecognisedInternational Sport Federation (ARISF) and others.
