SIKA SOLUTION PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThe landmark, five-star Sheraton Hotel Doha, located on the Corniche near West Bay, underwent a major refurbishment in 2014, budgeted at between $137.3m and $192.2m (QR500m and QR700m).
The renovation of Hotel, which was built in 1979, comprised of rebuilding all facilities including floors, wall decorations, furniture, the conference centre and the hotel's main entrance.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTSThe reinforced concrete elements, including the concrete slabs, beams, columns and walls, showed several types of deteriorations and corrosion of steel reinforcements. Chemical analysis of 15 core samples showed contamination with chlorides and carbonated concrete cover in these locations. Some beams showed cracks at the soffit and/or the sides.
In total, the project required the following from Sika:
Repair and protective coating of tunnel and basements Strengthening of columns, walls and beams Tank surface repair Concrete repair in kitchens Specialist waterproofing of 5 tank roofs which formed part
of the hotel's main entrance road.
The repair and protection of the concrete elements was classified as follows:
RC Slabs (soffits and top areas). Vertical members (Columns ,walls and beam sides) Structural and non-structural cracks stabilization Structural strengthening of columns, slabs and beams

50,000m2 repair and coating of Tunnel and Basements using: Sikacrete® Gunit-103, SikaTop® Armatec® 110 Epocem®, Sika AnchorFix®-2, Sika® MonoTop-612, Sikacrete®-114,Sika® FerroGard®-903,Sikagard® 705 L, Sikagard® Putty and Sikagard®-550 W Elastic.
1.4km strengthening of columns, walls and beams using: Sika CarboDur®S 1012 and Sikadur®-30 LP.
25,000m2 repair of the internal surface of 2 tanks using: Sikagard®-720 EpoCem® and SikaTop® Seal 107.
25,000m2 repair of the concrete in the kitchens using: Sikacrete®-114 and Sika® FerroGard® 903.
1,200m2 waterproofing of the tanks roofs using: Sikalastic®- 827, Sikafloor®-161, Sikadur®-507 and Sikalastic®-841 ST.
Sika Qatar provided full technical support throughout the duration of the project and maintained an excellent relationship with the Main Contractor and Consultant.
