PROJECT REQUIREMENT McVitie’s biscuits have been enjoyed by generations for around 160 years, with the launch of firm favourites like the Chocolate Digestive in 1925 and the Hobnob in 1985. In fact over 71 million packets of Chocolate Digestives are consumed in the UK each year. The Harlesden factory was built in 1901 and is the largest biscuit factory in Europe, producing 27 million biscuits every day.
United Biscuits owns a number of properties across the UK and were looking for a roof waterproofing solution that could be applied to different substrates, allowing a uniform product offer across the whole property portfolio.
SIKA LIQUID PLASTICS SOLUTION The roof of the Harlesden plant was in need of refurbishment but the access was difficult, therefore a bespoke access system was created to allow the works to be completed. This was done by one of Sika Liquid Plastics’ Quality Assured Contractors – Heartfelt Roofing – who have experience of creating bespoke access systems through their work on Olympia.
Heartfelt Roofing then installed Sikalastic 625 on the profiled metal roofs and Decothane Omega 15 on the flat roof areas. Both products are cold applied liquid roofing membranes that cure to provide guaranteed waterproof protection. And because no heat or naked flame is required during installation, it meant the roofing works could be safely completed whilst the factory was operational.
Sika Liquid Plastics products are suitable for application onto a number of different types of substrate and are also compatible with other Sika Liquid Plastics membranes, allowing the client to use a ‘one stop shop’ service for all of its roofs around the country.
