Following the lead of their pirate foes, the British Royal Navy swapped their daily beer rations for a daily ration of a half-pint of 160 proof (80%) alcohol in 1740. The rum was usually mixed with the daily lime ration (nicknamed “limeys”) the sailors had to wash down to fight scurvy.

more delicious than ever. It took almost 400 years to get this good, so don’t waste another minute;
