SID JACOBSON JCC WINS SILVER AND GOLD AT MACCABI GAMES East Hills, NY– This summer, Sid Jacobson JCC sent 21 athletes, aged 13—16, to the 2011 JCC Maccabi Games in Philadelphia. The JCC Maccabi Games, an Olympic-style competition, allows Jewish teens from around the world to compete against each other in a variety of sports and artistic endeavors, as well as instills an appreciation of Jewish values. “Year after year, the athletes who represent Sid Jacobson JCC make us proud,” Sarah Schmitt, Delegation Head and JCC Program Director of Membership and Fitness, said. “Their strong athletic ability, coupled with the dedication of our coaches, make for a very successful week. The girl’s basketball team, consisting of Hayley Alexander, Emily Beiser, Jen Doppelt, Jade Marcus, Morgan Roessler, Sydney Sodine, Katie Zambrotta, and Sydney Zambrotta, brought home the silver after four days of competition. The boy’s team, made up of Evan Dorman, Louis Dorman, Andrew Fellus, Zachary Goodman, Ethan Jones, Erik Kanzer, Alec Ludwig, Alec Ludwig, David Orr and Leo Weiner, also won silver. The girl’s team was coached by Jon Cohen and Shari Roessler; the boy’s team was coached by Mitchell Pruzan and Michael Wimmer. Zachary Lessen won the Gold medal in 15/16 Boys Tennis Singles Division. Alex Grossman in the 13/14 Boys Tennis Division played up into the 15/16 Tennis Doubles Division with Zachary Lessen and won the Gold medal. Greg Rosenthal and Bradley Wank also participated in Boys Tennis 15/16 Division and had some excellent matches.
