We are delighted to offer the work of Peter Sculthorpe, certainly one of the finest American classical landscape painters today. As you explore this catalogue of recent work, you will marvel at his technique and at the artist’s depth of feeling for his subjects.

Peter studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He began his career painting the landscape of Chester County, Pennsylvania and later his subject matter expanded to include Maine and the Maritimes of Canada. He works in both watercolor and oil.

“The Art of Peter Sculthorpe,” a collection of his works spanning four decades, will be published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd. in May 2015.

South of Cascade HeadOil, 36" x 36"

“The coast south of Cascade Head, Oregon, is truly some of the most rugged coastline I have ever painted. The huge water with its exploding surf, choppy waves and foam lines

bring a constant source of energy and drama.”

A View to MananaOil, 47.5" x 49.5"

“Viewing the small island of Manana from the northern land wash of Monhegan, you would never know its

significance in the protection of Monhegan Town.”

Above Pulpit Rock, MonheganOil, 16" x 24"

“Pulpit Rock is one of many natural granite formations of interest along the north coast of Monhegan Island. I painted it

as it is often encountered; in the summer months with large seas and a veil of fog hiding the islands interior.”

The HilltoppersOil, 26" x 30"

“Hill toppers are members of the hunt field that for whatever reason have decided not to engage in any dangerous aspects of chasing the fox, such as jumping. Hill topping is a civilized

if not leisurely way to enjoy a day out foxhunting.”

The StraysOil, 24" x 32"

“The strays are usually the young hounds that get dropped and lost from the front lines and hopefully stay within the hunting territory for that given day. A field member or a whipper in will be given the task of going back over the

days ground to gather and lead the strays home.”

Wind RowsOil, 20" x 30"

“Wind Rows is about the patterns of harvest seen on hot, sultry afternoons in the late summer. Feathery rows of yellow

green orchard grasses drying in the soft, fragrant breezes to a chorus of cicadas and crickets.”

Evening Pasture Oil, 14" x 18"

“Evening Pasture reminds me of the moment when the warm air of the day is being invaded by the cool of the evening after sunset. The softening light seems to intensify and enrich

every color and shadow in this intimate landscape.”
