Shrek! Cast List

CONGRATULATIONS to the cast of Shrek! We are so excited for this production.

What a talented group of performers we have! The casting process is always a difficult

one, but the casting panel is confident that we have selected the performers for each role

which will best benefit the production as a whole. No matter what role you received, you

should all be extremely proud of your audition. (We certainly are!) We also want to

emphasize how important and vital to the show each and every cast member is. No

matter what role a student is cast in, we know that they are going to have a great time in

this production and grow tremendously both as a performer and a person.

We have chosen to double cast many of the lead roles so that more students get the

opportunity to step up to a larger role. A performance schedule of which performances

students will play their lead roles in, will be released later in the rehearsal process. This

gives the director time to see which cast members match up and have the best chemistry

together. We only double cast a role if there were two people who equally fit the

role. We did not double cast people who were “almost” ready. Instead, we understudied

several of the roles. Being an understudy is NOT a throw away role. Understudies will

be required to attend all rehearsals for their role. In past Encore productions,

understudies who have shown growth during the rehearsal process have sometimes been

given the opportunity to perform their role.

Our production staff has the tough job of casting a production with so many talented

students. Now it’s your turn to do your part. Please help us maintain a spirit of

teamwork, encouragement, and humility. Perhaps you didn’t get the role you

wanted. Please choose to sport a positive attitude. Perhaps you got the role you

wanted. Please choose to be humble. Everyone remember that words can be harmful and

hurtful, a negative attitude is contagious, and gossip creates division. We take into

account how you choose to handle disappointment when casting future shows. We value

character here and who you are as a person. Often, the most growth happens when we

don’t get what we want.
