Bellingham Show & Country Festival

Dear Supporters of Bellingham Show 2017 is a very exciting year for the North Tyne & Redesdale Agricultural Society. Established in 1842, 2017 see’s us celebrating our 175th anniversary of the first show. Building on the success of the last three years and the increasing support and interest shown by traders and exhibitors we have eventually outgrown our site. So with mixed feelings, the decision has been taken to move to a new field to host the show. Some sadness felt as we lose the quirky feel, the unusual shape and terrain of the old field but massive opportunity for growth, safety and the ability to bring all the activities into one field mean exciting times lie ahead. Last year we continued to build on the great success of the previous 3 years and thank you once again for your generous support. 2017 is looking to be just as good if not even better than 2016. Bellingham Show and Country Festival prides itself in offering a fantastic day out for all the family with something for all ages and interests. We have the traditional sheep, baking, craft, dog and horse events alongside, woodland skills, alpacas, wrestling, live bands…the list is huge! We have a great marketing campaign underway; press releases, social media, website, adverts and roadside advertising will all be used to full effect to ensure that when it comes to the end of August, everyone knows about and is going to Bellingham Show and Country Festival. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in the last 175 years who have worked behind the scene’s to make the show happen as well as the people of the North Tyne & Redesdale community who come along and attend and support the show. We hope you will continue to support the show, we are justifiably proud of this event and hope you will agree once again to become a part of this celebration of rural life.

HANDWRITING Judge: Mrs Lorna Thornton, Kirkwhelpington Prize Money: 1st £1.50; 2nd £1; 3rd 75p Class 432 Handwriting, set piece, paper to be size A5 (6 years and under)*

The first verse of the poem “Holly The Flute” by John Roe copied by kind permission from It Ain’t Necessarily So Holly the Flute hailed from Heddon A place known for Roman remains She ‘ad a face like a bagful of spanners Cabriole legs and voracious veins

Class 433 Handwriting, set piece, paper to be size A5 (7 to 10 years old)*

The poem R@S by John Roe copied by kind permission from It Ain’t Necessarily So

Life can be tough for a r@ If people don’t like where you’re @ It’s a struggle to live and all they will give You is a sw@ with a b@

Yes, life can be hard for a r@ To be meals-on-wheels for a c@ Amusement for Rover, or if you’re run over Life can get suddenly fl@

P’haps it’s better to be born a b@ Having wings adds a certain ecl@ To flitter around, eating moths by the pound But when you hit the plate-glass … You go SPL@

Class 434 Handwriting, paper to be size A5 (11 to 15 years old)*

The poem “Etymology” by John Roe copied by kind permission from It Ain’t Necessarily So Someone sent me a new word today, Disdiadochokinesia It tied my tonsils in a knot, I’ve uttered many easier But it tickled at my funny-bone and so I found the time To sit and try to use it and put it in a rhyme

It seems if you are unable to tap your left hand with your right You have disdiadochokineasia and you’re really in a plight The plain truth of the matter (I won’t beat about the bush) Is that your poor old cerebellum is turning into mush

* You may illustrate these or add a border, but only the handwriting will be judged.
