1 The 9th Middle East Refining and Petrochemicals Conference and Exhibition (Middle East Petrotech 2014) concluded on 21 May 2014 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre having attracted a total of 3,645 trade visitors and conference delegates. The 3-day exhibition of the latest technologies, new product launches and best industry services in the refining and petrochemicals industry grew by 11% in 2014 and attracted the participation of 134 companies from 21 countries. Covering 6,000 square metres of space, it showcased flagship stands from regional refining and petrochemical giants including Bapco, ADNOC, Borouge, KNPC, Petro Rabigh, Qatar Petroleum, Saudi Aramco, Sadara, SASREF, SATORP, TASNEE and YASREF. International service industry majors also maintained a strong presence at Middle East Petrotech 2014, and a host of specialist companies consolidated this line up. 86% of attendees praised seeing products and talking to suppliers at the exhibition as “very useful” or “useful”. The exhibition opening ceremony was performed by Bahrain’s Deputy Prime Minister His Excellency Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, accompanied by Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and Minister in Charge of Oil & Gas Affairs His Excellency Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa. During the official tour, the Deputy Premier praised Petrotech’s significant role in boosting investment and furthering technological advancement in the energy sector. The parallel technical conference serves as a major highlight of the Petrotech series. Under the chairmanship of Saudi Aramco’s Executive Director Refining & NGL Fractionation Omar Bazuhair, the 2014 conference committee produced a pace-setting programme under the theme Downstream Value Chain Integration Opportunities. Delegate opinion was high, with 88% of delegates surveyed rating the quality of presentations as “excellent” or “good”.
