Shot Type Research

There are a number of different shot types that could be used in my magazine. This will vary depending on what page the photo will be featured on. I have been doing some research on the shot types used in magazines similar to mine such as ‘Kerrang!’ This research has helped me have a better idea of which shot types are going to be featured in my magazine.

My research has shown me that on the cover page of magazines, medium shots a predominantly used, as seen in the examples below.

Using a medium shot allows the reader to see the costumes as well as the face; this can give an indication of what music genre the magazine is. The medium shot also clearly shows the face of the model, which would allow the reader to recognise who it is without reading the magazine.

After this research I have decided that the shot that I am going to use on my cover page will be a medium shot, based on the research and genre I feel as though a medium shot is the most suitable.
