Points of interest• Hanley Park is one of the city’s heritage parks.

It was opened in 1897 and designed by Thomas Mawson, an influential landscape architect. It has been the scene of some exciting changes in recent times. £2.8million has been spent in Hanley Park through the Greening for Growth programme.

• The park now boasts some fantastic facilities such as the Sports Zone and several Play Areas. Other general improvements in the park include resurfaced paths and car parks; a decked board walk around the lake, modern art features on the island in the lake and four beautiful fountains; there is also lighting; restored historical features and resfurbished toilets. www.stoke.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/leisure/parks/hanley-park
