Short Film and Hollywood Posters

George Lucas in LoveThe poster for George Lucas in Love has some qualities of a Hollywood poster, including the over Photoshopped images. The way its presented is also very similar to the Star Wars poster, with the layout of the photographs of the characters.

Although it has aspects of a Hollywood movie poster, there are also some things that are different, and unique to this poster. For example, the images look over Photoshopped in a way, but also animated or drawn. The colour scheme also lacks a similar taste to Hollywood’s, as it is all on shade, whereas Hollywood movies tend to be bright and eye-catching. The title too, is very unique as it is small and towards the bottom of the poster, whereas most Hollywood movie posters tend to have a large title, usually centered.

I think this appeals to a completely different audience than most Hollywood movies, I think this attracts more Short Film fans, but also a lot of Star Wars fans with the way its laid out.

I’m hereThis is a poster for short film by Spike Jonze, ‘I’m Here’. The film is a love story involving two robots. A lot of popular Hollywood movies are love stories, but this one has a bit of an unusual edge to it with it being about robots. I think that the poster its self doesn’t look like a conventional Hollywood movie poster, as, much like the George Lucas In Love poster, it looks slightly animated and unrealistic. Although the typical title through the middle of the photograph is conventional, along with the obvious sponsor-ship, the whole poster looks colourless and monotone and overall not very exciting. Posters and advertisements are what brings most people to see a Hollywood movie, so if this were a poster for Hollywood, I don’t believe this alone would get someone to go and see the movie.

Across the HallAcross the Hall was a Short Film directed by Alex Merkin, but was then made into a Hollywood Movie. Here are the two movie posters for the films, to the left is the short movie poster and to the right is the Hollywood movie poster.I think the short movie poster differs a lot from the Hollywood one in many ways. Firstly, the short movie poster is a still photograph of the movie and obviously hasn’t had very much editing at all, where as the Hollywood movie poster is not a

still of the movie, but photographs taken in purpose of a poster. You can tell that it is very professionally airbrushed and edited in order for it to seem very glamorous.

The hollywood poster has a lot going on in the background too, which all represents things from the film, whereas the short poster has none of this, just the pure film. The tag lines on both of these posters are different also as the Hollywood poster tends to give more away with ‘It’ll cost you the night’ whereas the short poster just has three simple things of which give nothing away. I think that the Hollywood movie may have done this in order to attract people to go and see it by letting them know that someone is going to die
