Autism More common in boys but more severe in girls.
1000 children were surveyed in 2014, they found that 3% of 1000 people who had Autism were males compared to 1% of females.

Long and short term factors
In small groups 3 or 4 create a thought shower of factors that could affect children’s development in the long and short term.

What factors can have a long term impact?
• Disabilities caused by a genetic/ chromosomal defect e.g. Downs Syndrome
• Physical disability e.g. Cerebral Palsy • Visual or hearing impairment• Language impairment• Autism• Learning difficulties• Chronical Illness e.g. Cancer

What factors can have a short term impact?
• Injury or illness• Temporary hearing impairment e.g. glue ear• Being bullied or bullying• Home life – poverty, homelessness, drug misuse• Being looked after by LA• Being new to the country• Not speaking English• Specific dietary need• Gifted and not being challenged• Bereavement
