Broadway Shopping Centre in Hammersmith, London is successfully integrating its role as local amenity with that of social venue and transport interchange. Hosting 40 retail outlets, restaurants, a bus station and tube stations for the busy Piccadilly and District lines, the centre experiences a weekly footfall in the region of 660,000. With families, shoppers, commuters and tourists all using the various facilities, it is vital to ensure that visitors can make their way through the shopping centre without hindrance, 24 hours a day. Such a high volume of traffic means that all four entrances to Broadway Shopping Centre are well-used, to the point where concerns had arisen that the old aluminium matting could become ineffective and no longer adequately remove potentially hazardous foot borne dirt and moisture. Taking action to remedy this, the lower bus station entrance mat well, covering an area of approximately 24 sq. m, was last to be refurbished and, having previous experience of Milliken Forma entrance matting from Syncros, Centre Manager, Gary Blackledge had an easy decision to make. “I was impressed with the hard wearing features and colour choices of Milliken Forma 16mm matting,” explains Gary. “The ability to change individual tiles, rather than an entire section, as and when required, is something that can be conducted quickly and easily by our onsite team.” With the choice made, the Syncros fitters stepped in to install the matting overnight, all the while maintaining access to the centre which is open 24 hours a day. “The Syncros team were very aware of our requirements,” recalls Gary, “and put all measures in place to ensure a smooth flow of traffic whilst conducting the work, safely and efficiently.” An additional 200cm of surfaced mounted 11mm Milliken Forma tiling was used to extend the matting area to further provide protection from the elements to the shopping centre’s existing terrazzo flooring which, when wet, can become slippery. “It has dramatically helped to improve the appearance of the entrance, and more importantly, enhance the safety aspect,” says Gary. “All four of our mall entrances are now using Milliken Forma matting and we strongly recommend this product to others who are considering replacement matting.” CALL 01234 314 314 or visit www.syncros.co.uk to find out how Milliken matting systems from Syncros can be of benefit to your shopping centre. Shopping centres are no longer places used solely to fulfil purchasing requirements. They are a hub of the community and, as such, it is important that they remain functional and attractive to visitors and investors from further afield so that local people don’t lose their valuable services.

Taking action to remedy this, the lower bus station entrance mat well, covering an area of approximately 24 sq. m, was last to be refurbished and, having previous experience of Milliken Forma entrance matting from Syncros, Centre Manager,

Gary Blackledge had an easy decision to make.

“I was impressed with the hard wearing features and colour choices of Milliken Forma 16mm matting,” explains Gary. “The ability to change individual tiles, rather than an entire section, as and when required, is something that can be conducted quickly and easily by our onsite team.”

With the choice made, the Syncros fitters stepped in to install the matting overnight, all the while maintaining access to the centre which is open 24 hours a day. “The Syncros team were very aware of our requirements,” recalls Gary, “and put all measures in place to ensure a smooth flow of traffic whilst conducting the work, safely and efficiently.”

An additional 200cm of surfaced mounted 11mm Milliken Forma tiling was used to extend the matting area to further provide protection from the elements to the shopping centre’s existing terrazzo flooring which, when wet, can become slippery.

“It has dramatically helped to improve the appearance of the entrance, and more importantly, enhance the safety aspect,” says Gary. “All four of our mall entrances are now using Milliken Forma matting and we strongly recommend this product to others who are considering replacement matting.”
