Benjamin Yudin, Rabbi Andrew Markowitz, Associate Rabbi Shomrei Torah Parshat Vayigash 7 Tevet, 5779 / December 15, 2018 HAKARAT HaTOV Baal Kriah Upstairs - Jerome Gans Baal Kriah Downstairs - Ari Mayefsky Kiddush Upstairs– Sponsored by Norman Beckoff & Family in honor of Kevin's engagement to Dr. Alana Warhit. Mazal tov and welcome to Alana's parents Helene and Dr. Jeff Warhit, and also... Sponsored by the Fair Lawn friends of Chaya, Avi, Benny, Dovi, and Liana Holczer, wishing them well on their move to Florida. Rabbi Yudin and Shevi, Rabbi Markowitz and Sara would like to thank everyone for their generous and most thoughtful Chanukah gift. May the light of Chanukah shine brightly in all of our homes throughout the year. PACHIM KETANIM FROM RABBI YUDIN In Honor of Parshas Vayigash, The Forthcoming Fast of Asara b'Tevet And Priories Picture Yaakov: he is responsible for 69 souls. The famine is severe in Egypt, as found in Bereishis (43:1). He has not seen his beloved son Yosef for 22 years and now has the opportunity to do so. He also has all the pres- sures of relocating to a new land, language, and culture. Which of the above is foremost on his mind? The an- swer is: none of the above! (46:28) "He - Yaakov - sent Judah ahead of him to Yosef to prepare ahead of him in Goshen." The word used to connote preparation is "l'horos," understood by the Tanchuma (11) to mean specifi- cally to teach and render halachic rulings. In other words, Yehuda was sent to establish a yeshiva even before they arrived in Egypt, so there would be a smooth transition moving to a new location. This was uppermost on Yaakov's mind, and this must inspire us regarding our priorities. This is substantiated by the Talmud Yuma (28b), that from the earliest times of our people, the yeshiva was a mainstay and absolute necessity in our lives. NURSERY SCHOOL NEWS

This week the Early Learners and Young Explorers learned about community. The older children talked about what they want to be when they grow up - teachers, doctors, nurses and police officers. They made badges and hats corresponding to their intended professions! Two Fair Lawn police officers came to visit with the children and talked about the job of a police officer. The children took turns sitting in the back seat of the police car. They loved listen-ing to the loud siren! The younger children made police badges and painted stop signs. The Infants and Toddlers are learning about winter. They colored pictures of coats and mittens with blue paint. They also made beautiful snow-flakes with blue painters tape and paint. All of the children enjoyed Music with Morah Evelyn. Shabbat Shalom!
