The following suggestions were also made in his speech-

1. Sourashtra Language is presently mentioned as a dialect of Gujarati in Government documents. This language should be recognised and declared as an INDEPENDENT language.

2. Sourashtra language should be included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India.

3. Facilities should be provided by Govt. to teach Sourashtra language in schools as an additional (third) language to the chi ldren of th is L inguist ic Minority community.

4. Meanwhile our 'Educationists Confederation' should ask all their member Institutions, schools, colleges etc. to arrange free classes outside regular school hours to teach Sourashtra language to all willing children. They can be taught in the script chosen by the parents of the children.

5. Govt. should facilitate preparation of text books in Sourashtra language.6. The Sourashtra Madhya Sabha (Linguistic Minority Committee) should take these

issues up with Government through our new MLA.7. The invaluable palm leaf and paper manuscripts lying in the Library of the Sourashtra

Sabha, Madurai should be preserved and digitised for inclusion in Universal Digital Library, so that interested Scholars / students can freely access them for research etc.

If you seek God first, the things of the world will gain in value ten-fold and hundred-fold, but if you forget God and seek the things of the world, they are as nought (the figure '0' – nothing).

Babies cry at nightto stop parents from trying for another

Washington: Babies who wake up at night to breastfeed, may be actually trying to delay the birth of a sibling, a new study suggests. According to the research, infant's tendency to wake up in the night may have been a tactic to make mothers breastfeed more, thus reducing their fertility and limiting the number of siblings that will be born, which in turn improved a child's chances of survival.

Researchers argue that infants that wake frequently at night to breastfeed are delaying the resumption of the mother's ovulation and therefore preventing the birth of a sibling with whom they would have to compete.

It has already been documented that smaller gaps between the births of siblings are associated with increased mortality of infants and toddlers, especially in environments where resources are scarce and where infectious disease rates are high, researchers said. Professor David Haig from the Harvard University believes that the benefits of delay are such that the selective forces are strong enough to have endangered a significant evolutionary response.

Letter to the Editor

Sourashtras in PoliticsIn the current 2016 MLA elections in Tamilnadu, 3 Sourashtras are representing three

parties, AIADMK, DMK and BJP in Madurai. It is of course a good augury to come forward for elections. Of course, all the 3 parties are very popular. BJP is yet to make a mark in Tamilnadu.

Supposing even if one of these three wins in elections by God's grace, how far they will have voice and independent powers to act, is a big question mark because they will have to be submissive to the party discipline. In the past, no doubt many veterans like N.M.R. Subburaman, A.G. Subburaman and A.G.S. Rambabu and Smt. P.K.R. Lakshmikantham were there as MPs and M.L.A., but then what is the long lasting effect to the community. Nothing remarkable, I feel. It is quite a long time since we have come down from Sourashtra region of Gujarat but still we do not shine ourselves in politics.

What should be our future action? All of our community people having a flair for public service, without selfless motive, should come forward right from grass roots like panchayat, municipal, corporations representatives should establish in large numbers in places like Madurai, Dindigul, Paramakudi, Trichy and Kumbakonam, with firm foundations we have to stand up and come forward to go even up to national level ministers leave alone state ministers.

In my humble opinion, we should all join together and form one single party – Sourashtra Munnetra Sangam – and establish ourselves as a separate entity. All our elders and youngsters must give a thought on this issue and decide to show our strength in the eyes of the nation. May God help us in our venture.

The Diamond (60th) Wedding Anniversary of KUSO President, Sri K.V. Pathy (84) and Smt. Pramila Pathy (79) was celebrated on Tuesday, 21.06.2016. On this occasion a special 'Divaa Puje' was held on the evening of Sunday, 26.06.2016 at the residence ofSri K.V. Pathy, at Indira Nagar, Bangalore with their family members (son, daughter-in-law daughter, son-in-law and two grand sons).

Sri R.K. Sridharan, KUSO Vice President, performed all the pooja rituals along with ladies group members. They performed Puja and sang devotional songs with lamps l ighted. In search of Saurashtra rootsContinued from June 2016 issue

Though the Director of the Institute Prof.B.S.Sanniah, was busy in a board meeting, he was kind enough to spare time with us and have detailed discussions. Then we were shown the Library of this Institute. This is a real treasure house for us since it contains hundreds of books written in Moola Prakrita and others like Sauraseni Prakrita. Then we were shown the Manuscripts section where about 50,000 Prakrita manuscripts are stored. Most of the manuscripts are well preserved, but some of them are very old and in crumbling stages. We havetravelled all around Karnataka for several hundreds of kilometers gathering a lot of information and copies of manuscripts. All these speak hundreds of stories about our Tradition and Heritage. Can this treasure of knowledge be used for the upliftment of our community people? Yes, certainly it can be used. How?

After a lots of thought we have come to a conclusion that these can be used by our community people in many ways. We are trying to patent these with the help of our Sourashtra Madhya Sabha. Once these are patented then we will implement ways to benefit our community and our community weavers in particular. Then last but not the least, we will also try to establish a “National Institute of Saurashtra studies & Research”.
