Vision:The Cocos (Keeling) Islands wish to be regarded as model of best practice for other small island communities.

To achieve this, the Shire of Cocos (Keeling) Islands have adopted a Strategic Direction Philosophy, Vision 2010, to ensure that all future development and services proposed for the islands are sustainable and contribute positively to the standard of living and level of services for the local community.

GOAL: To upgrade Council’s existing management facility that provides a better working environment for staff that enables professional and efficient service delivery to the community;Incorporate a suitable venue for use as a Council Chamber, which may also be used for staff meetings, training and by visiting dignitaries.

RATIONALE: Existing office space and workstations are inadequate;No existing Council Chambers within the administration building;No networking of IT equipment;No visitor centre.

PROPOSAL: Relocate museum and incorporate into Cultural and Heritage Precinct;Establish a professional customer service/information centre;Establish suitable workstations for administration staff;Network Council’s IT system;Upgrade dining and pubic reception facilities;Convert existing office space into Council Chambers.

Governance - Logistics Precinct (HI)

GOAL: To provide an appropriate Council depot on Home Island that provides a suitable workplace for Council employees and the ability to house Council plant and equipment assets.

RATIONALE: Council does not have appropriate depot facilities, currently utilising sections of the Heritage listed Warehouse of the Copra Industry Era;The requirement to preserve Council’s plant and equipment assets;The requirement to provide a safe and efficient workplace for Council employees.
