Background

• The Ship Point master planning process was initiated in March of 2017 to advance policy direction from Harbour Vitality Principles (2014)

• Ship Point design and initial implementation a key action in the 2015-2018 Strategic Plan

• 2 open houses with over 300 people in attendance

Ship Point will require a combination of repair, replacement and structural stabilization of the sea wall and portions of the site

Shoreline and Structural Approach


Retreat: Remove existing damaged sea wall and replace with rip-rap bank

Unload: Removing approx. 1 metre of material approx. 3 metres back from the shoreline to reduce load bearing on existing wall

Support: reinforcing existing wall with vertical strapping in some areas with upfront and ongoing repair and maintenance

Reinforce: A series of interlocking jet grouted columns adjacent to the existing sea wall to contain the unconsolidated fill and materials

Phased Replacement of pier: Full Emergency Repairs in 2018 with Steel Piles and Replace Restricted Portion by 2023

Settlement management: use of geo -grid and resin bound materials to improve site stability and long term maintenance
