SHHS Student Information Literacy and Technology Workshops

Objective: To provide an opportunity for students to receive instructional support related to

instructional technology tools and research and presentation skills.

Twice-a-month, drop-in sessions

45 minutes

5th block

Beginning in January for the second semester

Co-presented by Sandie Liacouras and Xaras Collins-Brown

Topics by Month:

January – Searching Google: Tips and Tricks

o Student will learn how to properly refine a search using tips and tricks from Google.

Students will also learn how to search for images and videos.

February – Doing More with Databases

o Students will learn how to navigate several databases included among the high school’s

library resources – Jstor, SIRS, etc.

March – Noodling Around with Noodletools

o Students will learn how to use the more advanced features of Noodletools.

April – Beyond Your Everyday PowerPoint

o Students will learn how to make more engaging PowerPoints by embedding video and

sound; working with font and color; adding narration; and custom images and

animation.

May – There’s more than one way to present!

o Students will learn how to create presentations using tools like Glogster, Prezi, and a

wiki.

June – Reading for School or for Pleasure?

o Students will learn techniques for reading for school. They will also review titles

for summer reading.
