CHANCEL REMODEL: Update!
Things keep changing! The windows on either side of the chancel have
arrived and they are being placed as I prepare this! The carpet that was
originally selected has been discontinued so the committee is back to the
drawing board on that decision. All in God’s time!
Once again, thank you to all of you who have volunteered many hours to
help keep this project moving forward! We have saved so much money by
having our members donate their time and labor. And . . . the work is
beautiful!!

Reformation Celebration October 29th at 3:00 p.m.
Zion Lutheran Church, Corvallis
Everyone is invited to attend a grand celebration, 500 years in the making! This amazing
celebration marks the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation and of Martin Luther
introducing his “95 Theses” which sparked the beginning of extreme change within religious
circles of Europe! Be a part of this amazing celebration of history! After our worship, we will
have a wonderful meal. Please join us as we look forward to a glorious time of praise and
thanksgiving to God!
If you are interested in being a part of the choir for the Reformation Celebration, it is not too
late! A rehearsal will take place at Zion on at 2:00 pm this afternoon; just before the service.
SOME NEW INFORMATION I JUST RECEIVED: We knew that there was a meal being served
after the service. However, this is a potluck. Meatballs are being provided but other dishes are
needed – salads, casseroles, veggies, fruit, etc. If you want to bring a dessert, they are asking
that you only bring cookies.
UPCOMING EVENTS CELEBRATING THE REFORMATION
Dr. Kurt Hendel will present two events in Corvallis this week. Dr. Hendel is the Bernard, Fisher,
Westberg Distinguished Ministry Professor Emeritus of Reformation History at the Lutheran
School of Theology at Chicago. Both of these events are FREE and are being held at Grace
Lutheran Church, corner of Harrison and Kings Blvd.
Thursday, October 26th at 4:00-5:30 p.m. - Martin Luther: Man, Monk, Scholar, Transformer
Friday, October 27th at 9:30 a.m. - Community Conversation with Dr. Hendel
Fireside Room; refreshments will be served
Are you interested in potentially being the layperson delegate for SVLC
at our NW District Convention next year? The Convention will be held at
the Oregon Convention Center beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June
21st, and ending at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23rd. SVLC will cover all
of your expenses. Please let Lisa Boylan know of your interest.

The Corvallis Men’s Shelter is looking for volunteers during their season of
operation: November 1, 2017 through March 31, 2018. Located at 211 SE
Chapman Place (just across from the First Alternative Co-op in South
Corvallis), they will welcome up to 40 guests each night. If you are interested
in finding out more about this opportunity, there will be a volunteer training
on October 26th at 6:30 p.m. They will have a tour of the facility, as well as presentations on
check-in, bag checks, and interacting with the guests. If you have any questions, please feel
free to contact the shelter at [email protected].
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Lutherfest 2018 is coming soon!
Mark your calendars! Lutherfest will be on Sunday, February 25, 2018
from 2:00-4:30pm at the Boulder Falls Center in Lebanon, Oregon; the
doors will open at 1:30pm. This year we are excited to feature cheeses
from at least three creameries who have not participated in Lutherfest
before. We will again have a photo section for you and your friends to
capture the moment in a biergarten-style setting.
Tickets will go on sale at the beginning of December and can be purchased online from the
Luther House web site. For the second year, the Lutherfest Traveling Trophy will be presented
to the congregation with the most guests in attendance. Consider buying a table of 8 for $350
to enjoy the afternoon with seven of your friends! Consider buying a $50 individual ticket as a
Christmas gift for that hard-to-shop-for person in your life.
There are still a couple of holes on the Lay Ministry calendar for this Sunday. I have also
included the November Lay Ministry calendar so you can see where we still need
assistance! Contact the church office or fill in the calendar on the bulletin board on
Sunday morning!! Thanks in advance!
