Shingles Rash
Shingles (herpes zoster) is a painful, blistering
skin rash caused by the varicella-zoster virus,
the same virus that causes chickenpox. If you
had chickenpox, the virus becomes dormant in
the cells of the nervous system and may not
cause problems for many years. You can
develop shingles at any age, however as you
age your immune system weakens so your risk
of developing shingles increases with age
Signs of Shingles Pain that is described as a burning, tingling,

filled blisters appears on one side of the body.

the abdomen/chest area however the rash may
appear anywhere on the body.

ShinglesZostavax
Zostavax is a vaccine that is used for adults 60
years of age and older to prevent shingles.
Zostavax works by helping your immune
system protect you from getting shingles and
the associated pain and other complications. If
you do get shingles even though you have been
vaccinated, Zostavax may prevent the nerve
pain that can follow shingles in some people.
As with any vaccine, Zostavax may not protect
everyone who receives the vaccine.
How is Zostavax given?
Zostavax is given as a single dose by injection
under the skin.
