•  ThetankershuTledrillwasheldonMay15thinMontevalloonthecampusoftheUniversityofMontevallo.

•  ThedrillaTemptedtoreplicatethe2-hourWaterSupplyDeliveryTestusedbyISOintheirevalua<onoffiredepartmentwatersupplycapabili<es.

•  WhileISOnolongerrequiresfiredepartmentstodemonstratethe2-hourstest,thetestiss<llareasonablestandardbywhichfiredepartmentscancomparetheirwatersupplyopera<ons.(ISOnowusesacomputermodel.)

County17’sTanker213wasnexttoarrive.Theunitsetupfornursetankeropera<onswhilecrewsdeployedthedumptank.Theplanwastobuildouta3-dumptankset-uptosupporta1,000gpmflowtoMontevallo’saerialtower.

Flowwasstartedat250gpmatthe5-minutemarkandbythe11-minutemark,dumptankopera<onswereunderwayusingasingle,2,000-gallondumptank.The1stTankerTaskForcehadbeenalertedandunitsfromthatgroupwereenroute.

•  Thedrillwasstoppedatthe2:00-hourmark.•  Waterflowwasinterruptedonceatthe73-minutemarkforabout55secondsduetoajetsiphonissue.

•  Anes<mated93,000gallonsofwaterwereflowedthroughtheaTackengineduringthedrillproducinganaverageflowrateof816gpmduringthe2-hrevent.


TheLessonsLearned

•  Thenursetankeropera<onwascri<caltothesuccessofthisdrill–especiallyduringthoseearlyfewmomentswhenrigsares<llarrivingonthescene.

•  Thenursetankerset-upallowedthedumpsiteengineandcrewsomeaddi<onal<metogetthatfirstdumptankset-upforanefficientopera<on.

•  The“bundling”ofwaterhaulingmutualaidresourceshasprovensuccessfulinmanydrills.Thetankertaskforceconceptagainprovedtobeaneffec<veprocessforreques<ngandusingaddi<onalruralwatersupplyresources.


TheLessonsLearned

•  High-flowdischargesareanimportantfeatureonpumpersthatsupportLDHopera<ons.WhenapumperdoesnothaveanLDHdischarge,thenitisimportanttocarryanapplianceandshortlengthsofhosethatcanbeusedtosupplyhigh-flowsusingmul<pledischarges.

•  Theuseofdual,3-inchlinesfeedingtheLDHmanifoldatthelakefillsitemadeabigdifferenceinloadingthetankersfast.
