Western Region Meeting Minutes at IMAGE National Conference 2008
Western Region includes 13 states primarily in the “West”
Group brainstorms “hot topics” that impact their region
The hot topics that were discussed in 2008 were: Non-monetary recruitment incentives; recruitment and retention success stories; out of the box retention ideas; social networking for recruiters; foreign recruitment, utilization of the company website to highlight key positions and on-boarding and .
Non-Monetary Recruitment Incentives
Clinical ladder with recognition and bonuses
On site BSN completion and MSN programs funded at 100%
NCLEX review reimbursement Assistance
Non-Monetary Recruitment Incentives
Loan forgiveness for a work commitment
Relocation paid up front in the employee’s first pay check
Employee Referral programTuition reimbursement for immediate
family
Retention Revamped Nurse’s Week activities Town hall meetings with executive staff giving
organizational updates but also leaving time for Q/A Workgroup focusing on keeping seasoned healthcare
workers working at the bedside Off-site unit team building retreats Lift teams Designated Retention Coordinators
Social Networking Some organizations utilizing social networking
sites for recruitment purposes Traditional advertising will not reach gen y
candidates Most popular: linkedin; facebook Banner ads can have a targeted message to reach
the particular demographic of the candidate you are trying to reach
On some of the sites you can post special events such as open houses and even utilize their e-mails lists for direct mail pieces
Using company website to highlight hot jobs
Some companies using testimonials from employees on website about what kept them working at the organization
Virtual tours of the facility are important Some use pop-ops as a way to capture
viewers attention Others have used banner ads on the website
landing page Some feature a “job of the week/month” and
highlight special features of that particular job
Onboarding Most organizations have an increased emphasis on
on-boarding new employees since we are loosing up to 60% of our new hires prior to their one year anniversary
Some organizations are partnering with applicant tracking companies to help automate some of the onboarding process
Others have standard “check-in” times where the recruiters make contact with new hires at set intervals and intervene as necessary
New grad support groups and monthly anniversary parties were also mentioned as keys to onboarding
Thank you!
