July 2019
Friends,
I am so excited for the relationships that are forming within our group! More people are getting involved in our dinners, friendship groups, and the events that we are doing with the Lake Ridge Men. Santos and I, in addition to those who need the companionship of others, so appreciate your support and involvement. During the summer months, when we have clear days and beautiful evenings, we especially want to provide you with opportunities to get out of the house and meet with others. We welcome you to join us.
Newsletters like this one are our main avenue of communication with you, and we want to make sure that you continue to receive it, if you choose. Every month, we add several ladies to the mailing list, but we also receive back newsletters that are returned with no forwarding address. To be as efficient as possible with our advertising dollars, we are cleaning up our mailing list in the next 2 months. If you would like to continue to receive a monthly newsletter, please contact us by September 1st. You can call the Chapel at 806-698-8085, call or text your name & phone number to Gayle at 806-535-9323, or email the Chapel at [email protected]. If we do not hear from you, your name will be removed from the mailing list. We want to stay in contact with you so please reach out to us by September 1st!
I am so blessed by each one of you, and I am so grateful that the Lord has put me on this path to be available to those who need companionship, understanding, and to know that they are not alone on this journey. I am here for you.
Hugs,
Gayle

“Don’t you quit. You keep walking. You keep trying. There
is help and happiness ahead. Some blessings come soon,
some come late, and some don’t come until heaven, but for those that embrace the gospel of Jesus
Christ, they come. It will be alright in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to
come.”

Sharing Loss, Sharing LifeREMEMBERING THROUGH LIVING
The Lake Ridge Ladies believe in a process of supportive interaction with family, friends and community. By remembering and honoring our past, we believe we can be a source of strength and inspiration for each other and those around us. The stated mission of the Lake Ridge Ladies organization is to embrace every moment life has to offer and enrich our community, each other and ourselves through a positive outlook and a lifestyle rich with experiences.
RECIPE OF THE MONTHEasy Ice Cream CakeINGREDIENTS
INSTRUCTIONS
• 12 ice cream sandwiches• Chocolate syrup (I like to use to
magic shell)• Caramel syrup (I normally use
magic shell)
• 1 - 8 oz container of cool whip (or you can use homemade whipped cream)
• Remove the wrappers from all the ice cream sandwiches. You need to move fast because ice cream melts.• Lay 3 ice cream sandwiches side by side on a cake platter.• Drizzle with the caramel and the chocolate.• Lay another 3 ice cream sandwiches on top, facing the opposite direction.• Drizzle with more caramel and chocolate.• Do this twice more, so that the cake is four layers high.• If the ice cream sandwiches are melting, place the cake in the freezer for 30 minutes to an hour.• “Ice” the cake with cool whip.• Then drizzle caramel and chocolate syrup on top, allowing it to drip down the sides.• Freeze for at least 2 hours before cutting and serving.
What is Shingles?Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a painful skin rash caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus (the same virus that causes chickenpox). If you’re one of the approximately 99% of adults over 50 years old who have had chickenpox, the virus that causes shingles is already inside your body. It can reactivate at any time, and your risk increases as your immune system naturally declines with age.Generally, people only develop shingles once, although it is possible to get shingles more than once. Shingles may lead to long-term complications such as debilitating pain that lasts for months or even years. In rare cases, serious, long-term eye or hearing issues can occur. No matter how healthy you feel, your immune system declines as you age, and that puts you at an increased risk for shingles—especially if you’re over 50 years old.
Shingles SymptomsShingles typically produces a painful rash that blisters and scabs over in 7 to 10 days; it will usually clear up within 2 to 4 weeks. Over 96% of people who get shingles experience acute pain, and many describe the pain as aching, burning, stabbing, or shock-like.In addition, some people experience complications that can lead to long-term health problems. The most common complication is postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), severe pain that can last for months or even years in the area of the healed rash. Other possible complications include scarring, complications with vision (if the rash appears around the eye), and partial weakness/paralysis of the areas served by affected nerves.Contact your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms or would like to know about the shingles vaccine.

Nancy StampsJerry and I met in Lubbock the summer of 1960 on a blind date. My first thoughts of him were: “He has the blackest hair and the prettiest brown eyes.” We didn’t see each other again for three years, but three weeks after meeting up again in 1963, we eloped. He had accepted a job in Dallas, so we moved and started our life together.
In 1972, Jerry was offered a transfer to Lubbock, and we eagerly packed and moved our young family back home. And while Lubbock is home, Jerry’s motto was that he wanted to see the world before he left it. We traveled to six continents, went on 25 cruises, and went to all fifty states, Mexico, and Canada.
Our family was the most important thing in our lives. We were blessed with two daughters, Vicki and Cynthia, six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, many of whom have Jerry’s pretty brown eyes.
Jerry passed away in April 2017, just seven weeks from our 54th anniversary. Ours was truly a marriage made in heaven.

“May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as weplease, but as the opportunity to do what is right.”
Peter Marshall
As an Edward Jones financial advisor, I believe it’s important to invest my time to understand what you’re working toward before you invest your money. Working closely with your CPA, attorney and other professionals, I can help determine the most appropriate financial strategy for you and your family. I can also help with your retirement savings strategy so you have more options when you retire, regardless of what you decide to do.In 2001, I began my Edward Jones career as a financial advisor right here in Lubbock, Texas. Today, Edward Jones serves the community from 25 convenient locations. I became a limited partner with Edward Jones in 2007. I was named regional leader in 2017, and today I am responsible for 75 financial advisors in the area.I have been married to my wife, Ophelia, for 17 years. Together we enjoy our 4 boys. As a family, we enjoy baseball, golf, snow skiing, hiking, traveling and spending quality time with family and friends.I have been active in business and civic affairs for 17 years. This includes being a member of the Lubbock Lions Club since 2002, where I served as president in 2014. I am also an active member of the Lubbock-Cooper Independent School District Board of Trustees and have served in this capacity since 2007. I have served as a USSSA select baseball and basketball coach for 18 years. It is my privilege to be a part of this community which has been good to me and my family. I look forward to serving my community and clients for the remainder of my career here at Edward Jones.

We know there are many challenges that come with this time in your life. One of them could be a need for extra medical care in order to manage a chronic or debilitating disease or coming home from the hospital to recover from a surgery, an injury, or a fall. Accolade Home Care and Hospice knows there is no place you would rather be than in the comfort of your own home when you are confronted with these kinds of challenges. Keeping your independence while still managing your health can be a major concern, and our skilled
nursing staff and therapists address these concerns. We work with your physician to keep you at home where you will improve more quickly than if hospitalized. We can improve your overall outcome with fewer visits to the ER and the hospital. In the absence of that possibility, we hope to provide you with enough care that you may remain in your home as long as possible.
Accolade’s services range from high-tech nursing and therapy care to personal care. Advanced technologies enable Accolade health care professionals to use sophisticated medical equipment and procedures in the home to promote healing and provide comfort. Accolade’s highly skilled and compassionate nurses and staff members serve patients the way they would want someone to take care of their own loved one. If you are faced with a diagnosis with a life expectancy of 6 months, our hospice care is also available to you in the comfort of wherever you call home. Hospice is not only for the last few days of one’s life. It is when an individual knows their condition is terminal and they have exhausted all other options and want to focus on the care that matters most to them rather than the cure. Many have voiced their regret for not having this emotional, physical, and spiritual care sooner as it brought such significant relief, quality time with loved ones, peace and comfort.
Our Accolade team would be honored to play a part in your recovery, bringing you excellent care with a team approach. Accolade Home Care and Hospice commits to treating you gently, with courtesy and respect. From your safety to your medications, our focus is on you. What matters most to you is what matters most to us. We commit to listen carefully to you. We will be timely. We will call you to schedule our visits ahead of time, to let you know when we will arrive, and what care and services you will receive. Our expectation is that you will be kept informed and will receive help and advice promptly when you contact our office. We are available to answer your questions 24 hours a day.
We know you have a choice in home health agencies, and we would be honored if you selected Accolade. Thank you for your consideration of giving us that privilege.
Home is where you are most comfortable. Home should be where you feel safe. Home is where you heal best. It’s easy to feel afraid and to be at incredible risk in these difficult circumstances. With Accolade, you are not alone.
You’ve taken care of people all of your life. Let us take care of you.
