PRINCIPAL’SMESSAGE

Our school prides itself on providing quality education for young women throughout Taranaki and beyond. A wide range of sporting and cultural opportunities are available. The school campus is set within 11 hectares of attractive grounds and offers superb hostel living on-site.

Our School is built on traditional values with innovative approaches to teaching and learning. We have a proud history of academic excellence and a proven record of outstanding achievement in sport, visual and performing arts, Vocational Pathways, and cultural pursuits.

We promote lifelong learning, and ensure students identify and follow their passions and achieve to their full potential. We offer a unique opportunity to be educated at one of New Zealand’s oldest, most prestigious public girls’ school.

Our vision is to create confident young women of outstanding character. Each young woman will have the opportunity to discover and develop the necessary knowledge, skills, values and character to enable her to fulfil her potential.

Our school is large enough to have great opportunities yet small enough to care and develop each of our girls as a unique individual. Our platform of traditional values encourages Whakamana respect, Haepapa responsibility, and Whanaungatanga positive relationships.

Our students consistently achieve exceptional results in national qualifications. New Zealand Scholarships and Outstanding Scholarships are awarded to students across many subjects each year.

We welcome your girls to come and join our family.

Each young woman will have the opportunity to discover and develop the necessary knowledge, skills, values and character to enable her to fulfill her potential

“Don’t stress about not finding your way around, settling in, or making new friends, as everyone’s in the same boat as you and it will all fall into place. There’s so much to do and the teachers are amazing, but as the Chinese proverb goes, teachers will open the door but you must enter by yourself” Molly – Year 9

WAIMARIE UNIT / ADULT LEARNING CENTRE

Waimarie is the Special Needs Unit specifically designed to provide an educational setting for students with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. This is achieved through the provision of a multi-sensory based curriculum combined with physical therapy and life skills.

A partnership with New Plymouth Boys’ High School provides opportunities for boys with very high needs also attend the Unit.

Opportunities for involvement with mainstream peers are utilized when appropriate. The students at Waimarie

have much to offer those in the wider school and a practical learning programme about disabilities is included in the school’s health curriculum.

participation in music; progress and develop perceptual abilities, skills and musical understanding; and improve each time they perform. We have lessons available on the following instruments:

Each lesson is half an hour long and will be in small groups of three or four students. The school operates a 6-day timetable, therefore girls only miss each subject every sixth week. There are also time slots available during morning tea and lunch. Lessons are $40.00 a year (that’s approximately $1.00 a week). This covers photocopying, etc. There is an expectation that all students who take instrumental lessons participate in a New Plymouth Girls’ High School musical group. This enables the department to grow and allows students to gain confidence and skills through performance.
