We’ll meet at the old shipyard of Ruissalo, in the one-of-a-kind-archipelago of Turku, Finland, on Thursday August 29th at noon. We’ll meet for a peaceful 2-day journey that will challenge your preconceptions, offer epiphanies of a business-lifetime, as well as give insight into the soul of an intelligent business that is truly sustainable and profitable at once.

FESTIVAL OPENING HOURS Thursday August 29, 11 am–1 am Friday August 30, 10:30 am–5pm

ARRIVING AND GETTING THERE The festival venue is located 6 kilometers from the city center. We warmly recommend using public transportation as much as possible.

SHIFT SHUTTLE BUS There is a free SHIFT shuttle bus going between city center and the festival venue. You don’t need a ticket for the shuttle bus. The bus leaves every 30 minutes from Turku Bus Station, stops at Main Railway Station and drops you off at right by the venue at Ruissalo. See timetables on the next page.

TAXIS There is no public parking for SHIFT visitors near the Ruissalo Shipyard. If you prefer to arrive with a car we recommend to catch a taxi from TaxiData, and use the fixed prices for SHIFT attendees:

Please show your SHIFT ticket or wristband to the driver to get the SHIFT prices.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTBus line 8 takes you to the festival venue from the city centre. Hop off at “Ruissalon silta”.

REGISTRATIONYou can claim your festival wristband at the registration point in front of the festival area. If you wish to claim your wristband beforehand, visit:

For the registration you need your e-ticket sent to you by text message. We kindly ask you to have everything ready before entering the queue. If you can’t find your ticket, please contact tickets@theshift.fi.

Note that dangerous items and alcoholic drinks are prohibited.

Our crew is also shuffling around the venue at all times helping you in any possible way. You will know them from their SHIFT shirts.

CLOAKROOM & LOST AND FOUND A cloakroom is located inside the festival venue close to the main entrance (see location from the map). The cloakroom is free of charge. Please note that the space is limited and cloakroom cannot receive large items. If possible, we recommend you to leave your luggage at the accommodation. The cloakroom is open during festival hours.

Lost and founds can be brought and enquired from the cloakroom.

FIRST AID & SECURITY There is first aid service at the venue in case of accidents (see location from the map). In case of an emergency, call the emergency number 112, and notify the nearest member of staff.

If you notice anything dangerous or suspicious at the event, please notify the info desk.

WIFI There is one free wifi spot (see location for the map) that everyone can use..

ACCESSIBILITY The whole festival venue is not accessible by wheelchair, and the terrain is not the easiest one. We will provide you with a host to make sure you can enjoy the full festival.

LEAVE YOUR HIGHS HEELS HOMEThis is not a fashion statement. We love you to look your best. However, the festival venue is rough, sandy and partly on the wooden pier. Please dress accordingly. High heels are forbidden. Yes, forbidden. You will thank us later.

VISUAL ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAARA ALHOPURODive into a fairytale, where Finnish forests and mushrooms whisper old stories, myths and folktales. Saara Alhopuro is a Turku-born artist and photographer, whose studio is the forest here in Ruissalo. She uses wild mushrooms and other foraged materials to create colorful installations, which she leaves in the forest for random passers-by to discover.

STAND UP PADDLE SURFINGEver tried to make business connections while Stand Up Paddle surfing? In SHIFT 2019, you now have the opportunity between the sessions and chats to do experiential exercise and new business deals on Sunborn Business SUP! VIIVI HALINEN, DJ & ARTISTBased in Helsinki, DJ Viivi Halinen specializes in variations of House, R&B and synth-pop. With sets including uk garage, nu-disco, future and deep house Viivi provides a unique, melodic sound while always keeping the atmosphere fun and exciting. Besides regularly playing sets in various bars and clubs in Helsinki, Viivi’s organizing a popular RnB club concept Milkshake.

FOOD AND DRINKS At the food court area you can find delicious street food options and enjoy the festival atmosphere. Pizzeria al Mare is a tavern type summer pizzeria with delicious Neapolitan gourmet pizza right by the water.

FOOD COUPONS At the food court you can only get food with with food coupons (á 12€). You must purchase the coupons beforehand from any of the three SHIFT bars in Kestäteatteri stage, Westin stage or Yard.

Pizzeria al Mare accepts only cash and credit cards, not food or drink coupons. Also, you cannot buy food coupons at al Mare.

COFFEE, TEA & WATERCoffee is served for no charge throughout the day in several spots. Tea is served for no charge throughout the day in the co-working area. Verto water station can be found next to SHIFT Yard Bar. We encourage you to bring your own reusable bottle with you!

5G hackathon aims to solve the challenges of loneliness and social exclusion. City of Turku and Elisa Oyj are organizing a 5G hackathon that aims to prevent loneliness and social exclusion through 5G enabled services. There’s a EUR 10.000 prize for the winning team.

Å Pitch is the first Nordic pitching and matchmaking event under the slogan ‘do good, do business’. It consists of three tracks: a seminar, matchmaking and a startup competition.

• Ruissalo Shipyard, the amazing venue, has a lot to offer, so make sure you check out the map before you arrive.

• To get the most out of the SHIFT Week, check the timetable and make your own program plan before you arrive.

• Sign up to Brella. This is a smart thing to do. Along with a list of attendees (ranked in order of match potential), our full timetable is there, complete with a map of the event..

• Also, we kindly ask you not to bring any flyers with you (see our sustainability policy).

• If you want to take part in any side events, make sure to register in advance if that’s required.

• Remember to take some cash with you, just in case.

• You can bring your own water bottle with you to stay hydrated.

• Please beware of the Finnish weather! Be prepared for hail, rain and sunshine. To save your legs – leave your high heels home.

• Make sure your laptop and phone are fully charged. Your own power bank won’t hurt either. There is a charging point in the co-working space, but it serves relatively small number of users at the same time.

We want our festival to have as little impact on the environment as possible. For us, sustainability is not just a trend to join in – it’s a must.

WHAT ARE THE CONSCIOUS CHOICES SHIFT MAKES?In 2017 SHIFT was awarded the EcoCompass Certificate for exemplary actions towards sustainable event organization. We intend keep on doing the right thing. Most of the venue decorations are either borrowed or handmade from recycled materials.

For the 2019 event we were for example collecting paint leftovers. We also favor sustainable partner booths and advice our partners not to bring any unnecessary flyers. Also, our food providers are committed to avoid disposable plastics and serve the food from biodegradable dishes. In other words, we don’t recycle only during the two event days.

LOGISTICSSHIFT is all about public transport! We have never build parking space from scratch to the visitors, instead we help and encourage visitors to use SHIFT busses and public transport. The venue can be easily reached for example by busses and bike. It’s good for you and the environment!

COMPENSATE FOR YOU TRAVEL EMISSIONSSHIFT is collaborating with Hope Fund to make sure that everyone can take action and enjoy SHIFT responsibly. The collaboration offers SHIFT partners and visitors a possibility to compensate for their traveling emissions by investing in Hope Fund. The fund helps those suffering most from the impacts of climate change by helping to adapt to it.
