a s you get out and enjoy warming weather this spring and summer, we invite you to also explore something new in and around the shannondell community.

Choose from a new Fitness Walking class, planting in the Shannondell Garden, an outdoor bocce game, horseshoes, or simply soaking up the sunshine by the pond with a good book. it’s the perfect time of year to add an activity to your day.

as this issue of Inspirations confirms, there’s plenty to choose from.

take Zumba, for instance. This pulsing Latin inspired cardio-fitness craze has found a welcome home at shannondell. With classes in both clubhouses, getting in step is easy and fun.

When it comes to winding down at the end of the day, be sure to peruse the upcoming performances in the Performing Arts Theater. Mezzo-soprano Barbara dever joins Jeffrey uhlig in June, the King of Prussia Players return in July, and August is filled with the sounds of Swing.

So, get out and enjoy the summer at Shannondell. You’ll find good company.

although there’s more to do outside in these warmer months, that doesn’t slow

things down in the Aquatics & Fitness Center in the ashcroft clubhouse and Fitness Center in the Bradford clubhouse.

You’ll still find the early morning crew swimming and walking their laps in the pool at sunrise. and although the power Walkers are now making strides on the sidewalk, you’re also still likely to hear them huffing and puffing down the hallways. But if you find yourself searching for a quieter time of day for your fitness routine, try mid-afternoons. Classes are over and many residents are out and about. some call it their own. We certainly won’t tell.

Massage

a preferred venue among a wide variety of local, regional and national performers.

this summer, we’re pleased to welcome back a few favorites and several new acts. also returning are both community theater groups Methacton Community Theater (May) and King of Prussia Players (July) that call the shannondell stage home. and last, but certainly not least, our very own Actors’ Studio, Shannondell Singers, and Shannondell Tappers all take to the stage showcasing their latest numbers and performances.

it’s a summer season with something for everyone, from Bach to Big Bad voodoo daddy. so, grab your calendar and make plans, now, to make a night (or afternoon) of it – invite friends to join you for dinner – and most importantly, enjoy the show!

Jeffrey Uhlig,Artistic Director & Pianist Broadway & Concert Series

Jeffrey uhlig has performed with many outstanding singers and instrumentalists including members of the philadelphia orchestra, the new york philharmonic, and the Metropolitan opera. he plays regularly with the philadelphia orchestra Concert Master david Kim, principal Cellist, hai-ye ni and Principal Trombonist, Nitzan Haroz. Mr. uhlig studied piano with William Masselos and Gaby Casadesus and studied art song literature with dalton Baldwin. he received a Master of Music degree from West Chester university.

not one, but two philadelphia orchestra members join our artistic director for concert for violin and cello.

John Koen

John Koen is a member of the philadelphia orchestra and has collaborated with artists such as pianists Horácio Gutierrez and Jean-yves thibaudet, violinist Chantal Juillet, and harpist Elizabeth Hainen. Mr. Koen has also appeared as a soloist with the new symphony or-chestra; he appears regularly as a principal Cellist with the lansdowne symphony orchestra. perfor-mances include Carnegie hall and the national Gallery in Washington, d.C., among others.

Hirono Oka

Making her debut at the age of eleven with the tokyo symphony orchestra, violinist hirono oka won numerous competitions before continuing her studies in the u.s. today, Ms. oka is a member of the philadelphia orchestra, who teaches in her own studio and at temple university. she has performed with world-renowned artists and has appeared as a soloist with the san Francisco Chamber Ensemble, the utica symphony orchestra, and the Brandenburg Ensemble.

Baritone dominic inferrera is gaining attention for his vocal range including opera, oratorio, musical theater, pop, jazz, and contemporary. playing various roles in regional opera, Mr. infererra won critical acclaim in the role of “the son” in Six Characters in Search of an Author with opera Festival of new Jersey, where The New York Times proclaimed him a “standout.” Current projects include the role of “tomàs Cabral” in Encompass opera’s development of The Theory of Everything.

Mark O’Kain

Mark o’Kain is principal percussionist with the ocean City pops orchestra. Mr. o’Kain is also a frequent percussionist with touring productions of Broadway shows including Edward Scissorhands, My Fair Lady, Les Miserables, and more recently, Mary Poppins. a former member of “the president’s own” united states Marine Band, today Mr. o’Kain collaborates frequently with Jeffrey uhlig. the two recently released their first CD – Classics to Ragtime.

Barbara Dever

Making her debut at the Metropolitan opera in 1994, Barbara dever has since performed at the MEt numerous times. she has also appeared at la scala in Milan, the vienna state opera, the Maggio Musicale in Florence, and the opera Company of philadelphia. additionally, Ms. dever has sung with luciano pavarotti on Great performances from lincoln Center and with placido domingo in Mexico City. this season, Barbara appears in toronto, salt lake City, virginia, and at the Metropolitan opera.

Inna NedorezovBeginning her musical studies in russia at the age of seven, violinist Inna Nedorezov later studied with Mark Komissarov. Ms. Nedorezov continued her professional development with conductors neeme Jarvi and yuri temirkanov with the st. petersburg opera and also renowned russian conductor Evgueni Mravinsky with the philharmonic orchestra. Currently residing in the philadelphia area, Ms. Nedorezov is an active musician in the Delaware Valley.

Marka Steppera philadelphia native, Marka stepper has been a member of the

ocean City pops since 1989. she also plays with the Bay-atlantic symphony and the Bucks County symphony,

among others. Beginning her musical studies on the violin, Ms. stepper continued on the viola with Joseph depasquale under a Ford Foundation Grant. today, she teaches at the settlement Music

school and also coordinates the adult Chamber Music players.
