Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade Introduction Located in an attractive and convenient central business district (CBD), less than ten minutes’ taxi drive from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade (SIFT) ,founded in 1960, is the sole business-oriented university in East China and boasts a strong history of business education with its distinctive traits and traditional superiority, aiming at providing opportunity for higher education of business to excellent high school graduates both from China and abroad. Today SIFT offers 28undergraduate and 12 graduate programs and a multitude of certificates programs. Within its student body, 20 provinces and municipalities of China and over 20 foreign countries are presented. SIFT now has a total number of over 10,000 students, including nearly 1000 full-time postgraduates and some 300 international students. SIFT has been steadfast in its ongoing transformation as a first-choice destination university for incoming students by progressively strengthening its distinctive traits and enhancing the quality of its academic programs. In the past half century, SIFT has turned out for China large numbers of topnotch professionals in the field of international business, or CEOs/CFOs of multinational or foreign–funded enterprises, giving full play to their talents in the circle of international business. Now SIFT has 11 schools: School of International Studies, Business School, Language School, Finance School, Law School, Management School, Accounting School, School of Tourism and Event Managements, School of Business Information Management, School of Continuing Education. Each school embodies exclusive features with independent academic strength. School of International Studies (SIS), located in downtown CBD, provides international students with Bachelor and Master’s degree programs, diversified language training programs, business programs as well as study and culture tour programs. Having long put great emphasis on thoughts of internationalized teaching, SIS has enrolled over 1200 international students from over 20 countries each year, and has established partnership with over 30 universities from the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Canada, Japan, France, Germany and Netherland. Business courses offered to the international students are conducted in English. A new campus of SIFT with good facilities, which is ten times larger than downtown campus, is located in the suburb of Shanghai, providing material conditions for the major education activities for various programs. According to the survey data jointly conducted by MyCOS, GALLUP Inc. and Horizon Research Consultancy Group, SIFT has ranked No.1 among the 2113 non-key universities in China in the area of employment rate in 2008.

Chinese Course Introduction We have started Chinese and Chinese Culture programs for international students since 1990. We arrange small sized classes with class capacity of 10-30 students according to 6 different Chinese levels. Besides Chinese Grammar, Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Chinese Culture, we have colorful optional courses such as HSK (Chinese proficiency test) pre-exam training courses, Tai-ji, Er-hu.
