    A B S T R A C TEc on om ic research on aquaculture ca n b e broadly classified into fo urcategories: (1) produ ction econ om ics, consisting of budg et analysis,produ ction fitnction, linear progra mm ing, bio-econ ornic mo deling: (2)ma rket s tudies, containing dem an d f i tnction analysis, marke t survey,ma rke t stnwture, con du ct and performance study; (3) project evalua-tion, comprised of social benefi t-cost ana lysis and internal rate o freturn analysis; and (4) development policy, such as economic impactanalysis.The m ajor constraints fo r an eco no mic study in aquaculture are:insuff icient economic data, lack of cooperation among aquacultureexperts, diversity of aquaculture research, an d th e u se o f inappropriatedata and~or m eth od s fo r analysis.
