We should all be composting, it’s working with nature

You can tell plants grown in my own compost, tomatoes are germinating! Nothing kills off tomato seed

Shallots going out next week, if they look naff they are so bin ‘em!

One of the polytunnels cover on the plot for people with learning difficulties had a good split in it, taped it up for ‘em before it got any worse. 2nd time this has been repaired, it is usually where the crease on the plastic that it goes

Mycorrhizal fungi used on my sprouts again, not supposed to be used on brassica!

The roots on these roots and the size of the sprouts on top tell

me it’s doing nothing but good, so will keep using it

Our eldest Ben bought me a prezzie back, a compost caddy for the kitchen, love it!

We now have the sun on our back garden! It has risen enough to go over the top of our house, at last (greenhouse behind clematis)

I only bury my garlic on the plot shoulder high

When coming through like now, then I top dress with manure, this will be done about 3 times as it grows

Another good dollop of wood chip delivered on site, this was gone within 4 days, ideal for pathways on top of a weed suppressant

Time to sow my eating leeks, spares for our gardening clubs bring & buy in June as well, one packet of Musselburgh leek seed from wilko will do 3 pots of multi-purpose compost with vermiculite

Seed covered with vermiculite and then watered with tepid (greenhouse temp) rain water

Have a young pear tree in a daft place so going to move it

Although it has a few buds showing I’m still going to attempt the move as it’s doing nothing where it is

Tree lifted with as much root on as possible, hole dug out and lined with manure, tree planted in upright and firmed in

Firmed in and top dressed with spent hops, nature get going…
