SHALE JUSTICE NOW Shale Justice Coalition Newsletter Volume 1 Issue 1 June-July 2013 FRACKED: LOY ALSOCK ST A TE FOREST Over 500 people jammed a Department of Conserva- tion and Natural Resources meeting on Monday June 3, 2013, to voice their opposition to natural gas drilling in the Loyalsock State Forest. The Loyalsock State Forest covers approximately 100,000 acres across Bradford, Lycoming and Sullivan Counties.The targeted area for gas drilling includes what is known as the Clarence Moore Tract.These acres are home to the Old Logger’s Path, named by Backpacker magazine as one of the best hikes in America. The Loyalsock State Forest forest is also home to numerous at risk and endangered species. GASLAND II IN WILLIAMSPORT The academy-award nominated lm, Gasland, broke the all-time attendance record for a movie at the CAC. Now Gasland II is coming to the Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport with a FREE showing Wednes- day night, June 19th, at 7pm. Producer/director Josh Fox will be on hand for Q & A after the movie. This FREE premiere of Gasland II is sponsored by RDA. Gasland II tells the stories of families who have been directly affected by hydrofracking. The director, Josh Fox, traveled to Colorado, T exas, Pennsylvania and even Australia to depict what happens when hydrofracking becomes a backyard reality. Viewers see the impacts of fracking on the air, land, water, humans and culture.
