Everyone at the school is very aware of the current health issue we are all facing with corona virus. If you child is sick we ask that they do not come to school. We also ask that parents consider their need to be in the playground before school – teachers are on duty from 8.30am and your child will be safe and supervised.

We have a number of students who are arriving well before the 8.30am bell. Although many of the teachers arrive very early to school they are not officially on duty until 8.30am, so children here before that time have no supervision.

At the other end of the scale, students who are arriving at school late, just because they are running late is disruptive for the student themselves as well as the rest of the class and the teacher. When a student arrives at school after the morning bell they will have missed the morning social catch-up with their friends, which is an important part of the day, as well as missing lesson instructions. It also means that the teacher needs to stop teaching the rest of the class to get the late student involved in the lesson. Please remember – 5 to 9 – be on time!

Unfortunately the planned excursion for Stage 2 and 3 students to the Writers Festival and Newcastle Art Gallery has had to be cancelled because the Writer’s Festival has been cancelled due to concerns about Corona Virus.

Other planned activities:

• Westlakes Zone and Hunter Region sports trials have also been cancelled.

• Star Struck is still on at this stage (hopefully the crisis will be over by then)

• Year 4 camp and Stage 3 to Canberra are both still on at this stage. If the trips are cancelled at a later date we will organise a refund of any monies that parents have paid.

• Parent teacher interviews are going ahead as planned but we will maintain the recommended social distance of 1.5m

A huge thank you to those families who have been able to donate a box of “white gold” aka tissues. We really appreciate this.

We are trying to maintain a “business as usual” approach here at school so that we stay a safe and settled place for our students. Decisions we make are made in line with Department of Education guidelines that are guided by the health experts.
