Dear applicant: April 23, 2016, marks the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, one of the world’s most famous writers for the stage. To commemorate this date, faculty of both the theatre and English programs at Grenfell Campus have designed Shakespeare 400, a special week of workshops, lectures, presentations and activities designed to get inside the world of William Shakespeare, especially for high school students. The Shakespeare 400 week will give you the chance to explore the plays, both through acting exercises and presentations, see the work in an engaging adaptation of “Hamlet” and in a special staged reading. We’ll also explore the culture of Shakespeare’s world through dance, music and food, and watch, and talk about, a few movies based on the plays of Shakespeare. You’ll get the chance to meet and interact with the actors, directors, and designers of Grenfell’s theatre program, and toss around ideas with professors from our English program. All told, this is a unique opportunity to explore the works, and the world, of Shakespeare in an exciting and interactive way. We invite all interested students to apply for this special week of celebrations. If you have any questions, please let us know by contacting [email protected] or 709-637-6277. We look forward to your application and welcoming you to Shakespeare 400! Sincerely, Todd Hennessey, Head, Division of Fine Arts For the Shakespeare 400 team
