Pipe Installation From Perco
SHAFT SINKING CASE HISTORY
A Victorian brick egg sewer runningthe length of Dale Street, one of thebusiest streets in Liverpool City Centrehad collapsed half way along thestreet.
The area has been heavily developedover three centuries and the groundsurrounding the collapse is tightlypacked with services for the manyoces and public buildings in theDale Street area.
To avoid any possible damage toservices and disruption to local
premises, we recommended that weshould hand dig a shaft to theaected sewer. This meant that everyservice pipe below the street could beprotected during the works.
A seven metre deep timber shaft wasconstructed to British Standards. Thesewer top was then exposed andrepaired.
Following repair and testing, the shaftbacklled, with special attentionbeing paid to services pipes runningacross the shaft. The carriageway was
then reinstated. The project wascarried out by Perco’s specialist teamof tunnellers and shaft builders over athree week period.
