    Balak – Ayin Hora

Bamidbar 24:5 “how goodly are your tents” Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer was known by everyone to be a

true “ohev yisroel” as well as an extraordinary talmid chochom. After he had given the daily shiur in Etz Chaim yeshiva that was located close to Machane Yehuda, he

would make his way home through the shuk. However the bachurim in the yeshiva noticed that at certain times he

would change his route home. The bachurim in the yeshiva were curious as to the reason for this and approached him. At first he was reluctant to answer but upon being pressed

to answer he explained: “Last time I walked through the shuk I noticed all the sum-mer fruits plump and ripe arranged so beautifully on the stands. I thought about the gemoro in Bovo Metzia 107a

that states that it is forbidden for a person to cross his friend’s field when it is full of produce because of ayin horo.

Therefore I decided to change my route!”
