If elected to Student Government Board, I would like to deal with issues concerning traditionsschool spirit, and relations between students and student athletes. My first point of action will be to address the fact that one of our oldest and most popular traditions has been absent for 8 years. This tradition is the Pitt/Penn State football game. By working with Penn State’s Student Government Board and mobilizing student support, I hope to put pressure on both Athletic Departments to come to some sort of compromise. This rivalry game is a fun tradition that is not only good for recruiting athletes but is also good for recruiting students. Not only do I want to bring back old traditions, I would like to start new ones as well. A tradition that I would like to start is a community service event where students, student athletes, and coaches work together. This event would be a great start in getting the students and the student athletes working together for a good cause. With greater interaction between students and athletes, I am hopeful that more students will have incentive and motivation to go to some of the less popular sporting events. The idea behind this is to gain more support for athletes, give the students the opportunity to meet the coaches and athletes, and to help the community. As a board member, I would focus on improving and increasing school spirit and traditions. My goal is to achieve this by uniting many different students and student organizations.
