Sweet wine is one of the
estate's specialities. Because of the Danube region's dry continental
climate, large quantities of grapes infected with noble rot (Botrytis) is a
rare occurrence indeed. But when there is Botrytis in sufficient quantities,
we select the infected berries and bunches from the vineyards very
carefully, and then separate the grapes in a second selection process for
Auslese, Beerenauslese or Trockenbeerenauslese wines.
Description:
SCHLOSS GOBELSBURG
from botrytis grapes culled December 22 from across the
estate´s vineyard, is very pretty. It even represents quite good value, as far
as nobly sweet, selectively harvested wines from this part of the world ago.
Aromas of sweet pea, mandarin, honey, and a hint of smoke distilled pit
fruits and sweet green herbs. Pineapple, caramelized peach, honey, pit
fruits and persistently juicy citrus inform a satisfyingly long finish. Allowing
for its youth, this could easily be masking some additional complexities.
is the oldest winery in the Danube region with a
documented history back to 1171. Since January 1996 the Château and
winery is managed by family Michael Moosbrugger. The vineyards from the
35 ha estate are located on the slopes and terraces of the oldest vinyard
sites around Langenlois. Nowadays the winemakers are interested in
producing authentic and noble wines from different terroirs. The winery
concentrates mainly on Grüner Veltliner and Riesling and in the selection of
old authentic varieties.
