SFU Club for the Cure Presents Balding for Dollars 2014 To SFU Club for the Cure’s 8 th Annual Balding for Dollars Event on Wednesday, March 19th, 2014 from 10am to 4pm. Come out to the Convocation Mall on SFU’s Burnaby Campus to enjoy great food, carnival games, inflatable sumo suits, a photobooth, music, and entertainment. This is a family friendly event. Please bring your friends!! There will also be a raffle draw with many fantastic prizes to be won! We are looking for students grades 10-12 to join us at this event. We offer a fun way to get to know a local university and earn some volunteer hours too! Keep reading to find out more. . . YOU ARE INVITED. . . What is Balding for Dollars? Every year approximately 130 children are diagnosed with cancer in BC. In Canada, about 1,400 children develop cancer each year and that number continues to grow steadily. This makes cancer the most common disease- related death in children under 19 in North America. Balding for Dollars is trying to change those numbers through its fundraising efforts and various initiatives. The money raised by this organization goes towards childhood cancer research, wigs for kids, education The students at SFU want to make a difference in this fight by holding a Balding for Dollars fundraiser on campus and this year we are asking for your help! To reach our goal of $17,000, we need individuals to sign up as shavees. Shavees are not required to go completely bald, but can cut a few inches of their hair off. Any participation is much appreciated and welcome! If you choose to cut off 8 inches or more of your hair, it will be able to be turned into a wig. Also How You Can Help . . . bursaries, and teen adventure programs. They also put money towards assisting families with the purchase of medical supplies and equipment, costly prescriptions and nutritional supplements not covered by health insurance, as well as securing temporary accommodations for families who must travel to accompany their child for treatment. If you want to raise money but do not want to shave/cut your hair that is totally okay! Just sign up as a shavee on the BFD website so you can collect donations online and make sure to mention that you will not be shaving but want to help out anyways. This event is a great way to get involved in the community and have a positive impact on the lives of many children. Contact us at: [email protected]

SFU Balding for Dollars 2014

If you’re wanting volunteer hours for graduation or a reference letter for scholarship applications, resumes etc. then we are the organization/event for you!

To be eligible for a reference letter/volunteer hours you must be:

A) Signed up on our site as a shavee/fundraiser. This means that you are agreeing to spend time up to and on the day of the event fundraising for Balding for Dollars and raising awareness about childhood cancer.

B) Organizing and carrying out fundraising efforts in your own areas, and schools. This can be through bake sales, bottle drives, car washes etc. Whatever you can think of. All we ask is that you post photos of those efforts to your social media sites and tag us in it. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are

For those needing Volunteer Hours. . .

If you’re graduating this year and you’re looking at SFU as a prospective school then you should totally come out to this event. This is an opportunity for you to see SFU’s students in action and to get to know some of them in the process!

We will be holding campus tours throughout the day so if you wanted a better look at the campus and more info

If you don’t have social media then we ask that you email us about your efforts (with photos included) so we’re kept in the loop! We also ask for updates so that we can tailor your letter to include your personal efforts towards this event.

C) On the day of the event bring your family and friends to support you and the cause. Participate in the different activities offered. Meet our courageous cancer warriors. Get your photo taken in the photo booth. Buy some raffle tickets and win more prizes. Enjoy some awesome music. All we ask is that you sign in and out when you leave so we know how many hours to write for you.
