Questions to Ask Yourself
Every sorority on campus has members of the highest quality, participates in philan-
thropic, sisterhood, social events, and upholds a certain standard of scholarship.
But which one fits you the best? Sometimes this decision can be very hard to make.
Here are a few questions to think about before making a final decision.
Why do you want to join a sorority?
What are the positives about each particular chapter? Negatives?
What group do you feel that you "fit in" with and feel the most comfortable around?
Are you ready to make a commitment to join this organization for life?
Do you have the financial resources to pay for chapter dues, activities and events,
and other related expenses?
Will you have the time to participate in chapter leadership positions, chapter
meetings, service events, intramurals, and other chapter events?
Has the chapter answered all of your questions and given you ample information?
What Do I Wear?
You need to wear your nametag and carry your calling cards at all times (these will be
provided to you)! You will be standing and walking a lot so wear comfortable shoes.
Day One and Two Events: Dress casually and comfortably. The chapter members will be wearing t-shirts and jeans. Wear whatever you feel puts your best foot forward!
Day Three This is a more formal, intimate event. The chapter members will be wearing
black dresses. Most people would dress in interview or business attire; as such we
would recommend no jeans, t-shirts, or sandals.
Bid Day: Dress casually and comfortably; bring a jacket, as portions of the evening
will be outside. You will be given a t-shirt by your new chapter so consider also wear-
ing an undershirt/tank.
Will food be provided?
Please eat before you attend the recruitment events. We will provide some snacks
while you wait and depending on the day the sororities may provide beverages and
snacks during their recruitment events, but it won’t be enough to replace a meal. You
will have breaks in which you can run upstairs and grab food.
How do I choose which sorority I want to join?
When considering your preference, it is important to think about what will be the best
fit for you, not necessarily the chapter that a friend or family member has joined. There
are differences between chapters on different campuses and across the country. This commitment is yours to make and you will benefit from a well thought out choice.
Both you and the sorority are trying to find a “fit”. For the sorority- do they see they
qualities and characteristics of what they expect of a member. You should consider the
same– does the qualities and characteristics of the sorority match the person you want
to be and who you want to be surrounded by? Refer to the Questions to Ask a Sorority /
Yourself page later in this booklet for help.
Consult your Recruitment Team Counselor throughout the weekend. In addition, Ni-
cole and Nicki and will be present throughout the entire process to support you in mak-
ing the best decision for YOU!
Be yourself, relax, and have fun!!
