Today in FACS History• September 23, 1869• Birthday of Mary Mallon. She was known as

Typhoid Mary, and was an infamous household cook who was responsible for major outbreaks of typhoid in the New York City are in 1904, 1907 and 1914. She was immune to typhoid herself, but was a carrier of the bacillus, and spread it where she worked as a household cook.

Today in FACS History• September 28, 1895• Louis Pasteur died. He was a French scientist,

who showed that microorganisms were responsible for disease, food spoilage and fermentation. He developed the process for killing these organisms by heat, called Pasteurization.
